This character’s forename is Katrina and she met Otto in a dive bar in 1987. They hit it off straight away but being young, dumb, and in love they made some bad decisions along the way. Two months after meeting, Katrina was pregnant and Otto was estranged from his family. Loving the child inside Katrina, Otto did his best to support her. He got three jobs and together they rented a two bedroom apartment. Katrina’s life before meeting him and around this time has purposely been left vague for you to make her your own and craft her however you choose.

Their daughter, Evony Falkenrath, was born in 1988 and she couldn’t have been more loved by the two. Katrina crumbled under the pressure of having a new born and a partner who worked long hours. Sleepless nights pushed Otto and Katrina apart not because of Evony, because Katrina’s dreams were haunted with nightmares. She couldn’t leave the house. She didn’t want Otto to leave either and he didn’t want Evony left in the care of an unstable mother. Katrina would see red at Otto for asking how she was, at Evony for crying at raised voices, at herself for the way she was. Glasses started smashing, chairs were thrown, neighbours complained. It was when they got a warning that Evony would be placed in custody for her own safety that Otto knew he had to do something. Despite how much he loved her and the guilt that would stay with him, he had Katrina taken away. He blamed himself for what happened between them, for Katrina’s decent into darkness. Otto never saw her again and the rest of Katrina’s history is free to be decided as is the true reason for what happened. There is always more than one side to a story and everything happening so fast between them that Otto may never have known the real Katrina. Her story, as of yet, is untold.

I’ve had Gabe develop a kind of cocktail shot with a very basic chemical makeup that those in the medical field could come up with – something that people with nausea, hair loss, and a low white blood cell count would need for their immune system. This is for the radiation poisoning that’s affected all characters in play. But something much more insidious is brewing in their midst.

Johannes can usually fend for himself, but when it comes to his hearing he definitely needs a helping hand to get along. His brother has always been there to help him, and though they may not always get along they know that they’re stronger together than apart.

I see Johannes’ brother as ultimately being very protective, knowing exactly what weaknesses the disability gives to Johannes and compensating for them in situations where alertness is needed i.e. whenever they go hunting it’s always his brother that’s the one to hear the crack of twigs or the rustle of leaves, and he then alerts Johannes so he can take the shot.

I’d want to start with their meeting. At the moment Jakub is holed up in a house on the easternmost border of Belarus. Perhaps your character thinks that the house is deserted and tries to make camp, only to find a very disgruntled Jakub holding a kitchen knife and ready for a throw down (of the verbal variety; Jakub hates fighting). He knows he needs a partner if he wants to travel any further, and as Jakub’s supplies are running low, these two may not have much choice but to band together. Ideally this would mature into a romantic relationship, but that would take a very long time. The primary point of this connection is for them to be traveling partners. It could be interesting for them to debate bringing more people into their partnership, or even to join a faction later down the line. Dynamic wise I see them as having a mutual interest in one another, although it’s masked by a lot of snarking (Jakub is hard to get along with) and personality clashes that mellow into understanding. I think this would work best if they were similar ages (mainly so they could egg each other on in doing stupid shit that apocalypse kids grow up to think is fun, like arson), although nationality doesn’t matter very much! They're just teenagers trying to make the best of the shitshow that is their life. Anything else about your character is completely up to you.
