What had started as a donut trip with Vanya had dissolved into them standing in the kitchen, wondering what they were going to bring back to their siblings that could possibly be a suitable replacement for a Griddy’s Donut. 

Pogo had somehow caught wind of their expedition and intercepted them at the front door. He’d suggested grabbing a snack from the kitchen but there was nothing there that could satisfy the very specific craving Five had. 

People who 'collected' that which they saw as abnormal had always worried Tophel, for it so often led to abuses of power and poor decisions.

This was no different, and though her hands itched to tear into all too mortal flesh and simply whisk away the children under the man's care she knew she must restrain herself. There was not enough time to plan things to happen in a way that would not leave them traumatized, not when he had already singled out one of the little ones and trapped them.

The fallen would not stand idly by as a child was dosed with what she could only assume was some sort if poison. Pockets filled with small treats and cameras careful disrupted she effortlessly stepped through the shadows outside the home, instantly emerging from those within the child's containment cell.

Kneeling down to be closer to the girl's level she spoke softly, holding out a wrapped candy as a peace offering. "Sorry if I startled you little one. It's a bit difficult to announce my arrival in this place, but I figured you might appreciate the company."

It had been another bank robbery- there had been more and more lately, and Diego was getting bored of them, but this time he had caught the men responsible for at least half a dozen recent ones. It was a big deal. He didn't work during the day a lot, but he'd heard the tip and had wanted to be there. Still, the rare bit of attention he was currently receiving from the press, while usually more than welcome, felt weird when he was so exposed in the daylight. At least he was wearing his mask.

A crowd was gathering at the police barrier to see what had happened and to get a look at the masked man responsible for stopping the robbery. Diego knew Eudora was somewhere over there, annoyed at his involvement but keeping people back now that he was. He had been in the middle of answering a question from the local news (something about the Umbrella Academy, as most of the questions unfortunately were) when he caught a face in the crowd.

The forced smile on his face instantly disappeared as he stormed toward it, completely forgetting the interview. A few dozen people were about to see him lose his shit, but he really didn't care right now.

It wasn’t until after a long night of tossing and turning that Five had come up with a few ways to get his sister more involved. “A mission—like what we used to do as kids. But this time, you come with us, obviously.” He started, the mid morning breakfast served in a classic way across the table by their mother.

Eyes flickered at the request, all at once saddened by the expression on his face but with a surge in her chest at the thought of being needed, even if she felt guilty about it. Vanya took her brother’s hand and squeezed gently, offering him a gentle smile. He’d never left her when she needed him (not intentionally anyway), and she would do the same to him.

“I won’t leave you.”

         HE  HATES  HOW  HE  TREMBLES  .  weakness  is  something  five  usually  hides  well .  a  trick  learned  from  spending  decades  marooned  on  a  ravaged  earth ,  with  no  eyes  on  him .  how  he’d  screamed ,  how  he’d  raged  with  enough  grief  to  set  the  world  aflame .  but  time  passed  still ,  and  he  grew  old ,  his  anger  cooled  to  forbearance ;  he  endured .  

   yet  tonight  was  different .

The sentiment rendered her speechless for a few moments, a sheepish smile creeping across her face as she took the hot cocoa in her hands, the warmth of it filling her with a cosy feeling inside.“Thank you. Really.”

           “I just… You looked a little down, earlier, so I thought that… You could use something to cheer you up.” Now that the gift was off her hands, Gal suddenly didn’t know what to do with them. At first, they hovered uselessly on the hair. Then she laced her fingers together, but that felt too formal, so she crossed her arms. No, no, that was too defensive. She uncrossed them, shoved her hands into her pockets, but that was too teenage, and, you know what, what was the big deal about feeling defensive? She crossed them again. “Do you... like it? I never actually tried your hot cocoa so I don’t know how you make it.” 

Vanya hadn’t had a panic attack in a long time, this one coming on so suddenly that she wondered if this was it. This was the moment she died. But in reality, she knew what was happening, as unpleasant as it was. Breaths became irregular, skin turning pale as she struggled to think straight. If only this could have happened at a more convenient time, and not right when Klaus was there.

“I’m-I’m fine. I just…”

“I need water. Please.”

Klaus knew a panic attack when he saw one. How could he not - he certainly had them often enough. And he knew, he knew that no matter what Vanya said, she was not fine. She would be, probably, she’d get through it, but at that moment... He had a pretty good idea of how she must be feeling.

When she asked for water, Klaus nodded and offered her a small reassuring smile. “Yeah, yeah, of course.” He started to move to put a hand on her shoulder, but thought better of it. He wasn’t sure if she’d want that at the moment, and the last thing he wanted was to make things worse. Water. He’d stick to getting her water.
