// im still here Doing My Thing but it's amazing to me how One Thanos Snap in this RP community just like... decimated it.. yike yall had that discourse/drama like a month back and all deleted and blocked each other and there's just... nothing here anymore. It's truly amazing and Cosmically Funny and if I was still in college I'd probably write a paper on it

He was still talking? Veraās head was turned towards Diego but her eyes were pressed closed tightly, trying hard to control the rest of her expression so as not to let him know just how hard it was to block out all the different stimuli. The car was on but it wasnāt going anywhere, the vibrations of the engine felt like it was echoing up her spine. At least the radio wasnāt on or she wasnāt sure she would be able to stand it. Most of what he was saying went right over her head as she tried to just maintain the control on her recently reawakened powers, but one thing cut through the haze and she nearly jerked in her seat.Ā
The whole car spun a little when she sat up suddenly, the glasses falling into her lap but right now the biting light couldnāt distract her.Ā āNoĀ hospitals, Diego. I canāt. Pleaseā you have to promise me!ā Sheād been able to avoid going to the doctor for the two years sheād been free and wasnāt about to risk them bothĀ over something she thought was her own problem.Ā āTheyāll find me. I know it.āĀ
Her hand is trembling slightly when she reaches out to touch his arm, afraid heāll spurn the contact and add insult to injury.Ā āI just want to go home. I..Iāll tell you everything justā¦letās just go home? Iām fine. Justā¦āover exerted myselfā.āĀ
GOD, she did not look good. Everything in Diego told him to run her to the hospital RIGHT NOW, but he had to trust Vera, had to trust that she'd been through things like this before. It was a WILDLY new way to think about her, but Diego had to remind himself... she wasn't helpless. She knew what was best. HE hated hospitals too when he was injured, for many reasons. But the comment SHE made set his blood cold.Ā
They'll find me. What the HELL was he dealing with here? Who were 'they'? Why had she never told Diego about them? Couldn't he have done a better job helping protect her from them? And... had 'they' ever come close to finding them before? God DAMN it, Diego needed answers. But he knew that continuing to demand them wouldn't make them come any faster right now.
The important thing was to get Vera to safety. He nodded, driving faster, not bothering to talk until they got there. What was there to say?
He didn't flinch away at her touch- somehow seeing Vera in this state eased his anger and frustration with her just enough. He'd make sure she was alright first, THEN be angry again.

Klaus sat there for a while, staring at the notebook. Taking a shaking breath, he wrote what he should have just told Diego from the beginning.Ā
[It was Dad.] He was going to end up in the mausoleum for a long time if Reginald found out but⦠he couldnāt let Diego go hurt Luther over something Luther did, no matter how much of an ass Luther could be.Ā
[He hit me with his cane.]Ā Telling the truth felt good despite the consequences that loomed over him.Ā
[You canāt let him know I told you. Please.] UnderliningĀ ācanātā andĀ āplease,ā before glancing up at Diego.Ā
Diego frowned, mind racing as he read his brother's words. It didn't make any sense. WHY would Dad do that? Sure, Klaus misbehaved sometimes, tested their father's patience... but there were conventional punishments for those sort of things... Diego didn't think their father would BREAK KLAUS'S JAW- by hitting him with his cane? There was definitely more to the story if it was true... but WAS IT TRUE? Klaus definitely liked to tell stories sometimes... maybe he was just bored. But... he looked SCARED...
Finally, he spoke.Ā "O-okay... So... why?" MAYBE Diego believed his brother... but he needed more information. Because if this WAS true... then he still had a promise to keep, and their father would have to pay.

The silence stretched between them for a long minute, long enough for him to move away and the empty space heād been taking up to suddenly feel so cold. Eudoraās arms wrapped around herself to try and bottle up the emotions that were starting to overwhelm her better judgement. But the what ifs filled up the distance between them and she found herself crossing over to sit down carefully but without hesitation. Her lips are thin to stop from trembling and even though sheās had a couple of strong drinks her buzz is considerably sullied by the serious topic at hand.Ā
She reaches out and grabs one of his hands, grateful that one of her legs is tucked under her instead of anxiously tapping on the floor. Any other time such nervous tendencies were easily tucked away, but right now she felt like a m e s s.Ā
āI ā..ā Eudora swallows hard, starts over.Ā āThat depends on what it is weāre trying to fix, babe. Becauseā¦I donāt think the problem is with just us,āĀ
He wanted to reach out to her as she approached, to wrap her in his embrace and hold her for a long long time. But Diego knew he'd ruined that- he'd only just touched her in such a VIOLENT way, he couldn't be sure she'd welcome the touch right now- and he wouldn't blame her for rejecting it.
Seconds felt like hours as he waited for her to cross to him, waited for what she would say. Just feeling Eudora's touch on his hand relaxed some of the tension inside of him, but there was still a lot left. Still... she'd reached out. That must have meant that Diego hadn't gone and TOTALLY fucked this up... yet. He was still painfully aware that he could have definitely taken things further before he'd caught himself.
His stomach sank as Eudora spoke, as he connected the dots, as things FINALLY started to come into perspective...
"Okay... Say... you're right... about all of this. Me. This... problem. ...What the hell am I supposed to do about it?" Because maybe he DIDN'T entirely believe it, but he was starting to believe it ENOUGH not to want to HURT her again...

Her eyes werenāt completely free of judgement but Xochiltās expression softened a little and she hesitantly allowed Diego to help her to her feet. Arms crossed over her chest, tugging on the beaded top and doing little to hide her modesty. Not that it was something that the young woman even took into consideration, it had been so easy for him to get her to release the weapon and the feeling of helplessness was only lessened slightly by how genuine he seemed to be about having no interest in participating in his peopleās slave trade. Was that why he had deserted? Thick dark brows drew together as she tried to piece together what kind of person had saved her and whether or not she could even begin to trust him.Ā
āA lesson? Do I look like an aj q'ijabā? An elder? No. Itās not my job to teach you.ā Curse it all, she was ready to just walk away and leave him lost in the jungle her people had thrived in for generations. Well, thrive was a strong wordā¦and Xochilt momentarily took consideration of what her own ancestors would think of her cooperation with the outsider.Ā
They think she needed to do what she had to in order to survive with integrity and strength, and part of that was returning the debt sheād incurred when Diego had saved her from the other Spaniards. A heavy sigh of a hiss escapes the tan woman and she motions for him to begin following her again, taking a separate direction from the scouts that had nearly spotted them. As they walked she began to talk once more, this time more aware of the lingering danger.Ā
āThere is no where closer. But do not worry, they hadā¦split from their commanding officers. The camp should have no surprises.ā She stumbled over some of the words, trying to remember their translation.Ā āYou are free to try and find somewhere better for yourself.āĀ
He frowned at her, irritated at Xochilt's apparent reluctance to educate him, but she did have a point. Still... "No, but listen... I'm a lot dumber than I look. Like... I'm not even sure where I am right now..." Or WHEN... "I uh, I think something happened to me..." Diego didn't know why he'd admitted it, or how he planned to finish that sentence.Ā
"Uh. I got taken too. One of the tribes... They found me when I was running and captured me... I really don't know where we are, but I started a long way from here, by the sea..." It was a big lie, and probably not worth it. Diego needed information yes, but he was digging himself into a pretty big hole. The easiest lies to keep were the ones with the fewest details, and he'd gone and given many details, some that didn't even make sense.
Following her carefully, hand still on his knife, Diego reluctantly accepted that Xochilt's plan was probably the best one. And he did NOT want to try to find somewhere better himself. Still, a few hours and they'd have supplies, food, water... it was a pretty good deal, and then Diego could try to get out of here.
"Okay, fine. You're right. I'll... help you get to the camp. And then what?" Would she go home, leaving Diego to fend for himself? He'd manage, but it would be a lot easier with a guide...

āHey, you can stay as long as you want.ā Diego was relieved that Klaus had agreed, but he also knew that there was no chance of this being a long-term thing, as willing as he would have been to explore that option, help get Klaus back on his feet. One thing Diego knew about Klaus was that she was never going to stop the drugs, and it was almost understandable. The OTHER stuff though, that came along with it⦠Of COURSE Diego wanted to help his sibling get a handle on all that. He just had to wait for Klaus to be receptive, which would probably never happen. He had to face it.
He sighed internallyā one thing at a time. Diego stood and reached a hand out, offering it to Klaus. Theyād sat here long enough, and he definitely didnāt appreciate the stares they continued to receive. āCome on, Iāll drive you back.ā
Of course, she knows she can stay as long as she wants. However, Klaus refuses to be a burden to Diego. Diego has his own stuff to deal with, the last thing he needs is a junkie heās constantly gotta keep an eye on. Heās only agreeing because heās tired of having nowhere to sleep thatās warm and comfortable.
Diego offers his hand and Klaus grabs ahold of it to pull himself up to his feet. The stares donāt bother him, heās used to it by now. Everywhere he goes, thereās at least one person staring at him.Ā āYeah, okay.ā
He nodded, satisfied at the agreement, holding onto Klaus's hand a little longer than necessary. Diego was just... ALWAYS losing him when it mattered the most, he wasn't convinced Klaus still wouldn't just try to run. Still, he started to lead his sibling to his car, reminding himself that whether or not Klaus stuck around wasn't ultimately up to Diego after all.
"Yeah, I just moved into this new place... It isn't much but I like it. It's, uh, got a gym, I guess you could say..."Ā It wasn't far to the car- Diego stopped next to it and looked back to make sure Klaus was coming.

She ignored his outstretched hand for a moment, could feel it move on the bed but all Eudora could really concentrate on was trying to control the shaking sobs that wanted drown them both. It wasnāt often that she lost complete control like this, usually only when they had been fighting for hours or over something serious. And since their official break up there hadnāt been so much as a lengthy conversation exchanged. But now the words he said to her, as much as she needed to hear them, only had her shaking her head in denial of the comfort. It had been too close this time.Ā
āI almost didnāt get-..ā The detective sucked in a harsh breath and wipes the tears off her face before taking his hand once more in a gentle grip. Of course she had saved him, would always do anything for himā¦Another harsh reminder of why they would never work.Ā āget there in time. The doctors said it was so closeā¦ā
When she did look up at him Eudora couldnāt help but reach one hand up to touch his face, almost like how sheād used to when they were together. Though this time it was obvious she was looking more at the dark bruises and white bandage wrapped around Diegoās head. The dark tufts of hair that stuck out oddly at the top.Ā āIf you werenāt half dead Iād be tempted to kill you myself.āĀ
Hearing it from the doctors, feeling it himself when he sat up... Neither of those things truly had made Diego realize the extent of his injuries... There was very little separating this incident in his mind to anything that had happened to him before. Seeing her reaction though... It FINALLY was sinking in that he'd ALMOST DIED. That Eudora HAD saved his life...Ā
Diego... didn't know how to feel about that, but could tell his mind was starting to try to process it. He'd always known he'd die someday, probably young and doing something stupid. He'd seen what had happened to Ben, and wherever Five was, he was probably dead too. Diego was always going to die, had thought he'd accepted it, so long as they were his own choices that led to it and not his father's. But now... he wasn't quite sure if he would have been ready... Especially thinking about how Eudora would have reacted...
He let a few tears fall from his own eyes as he watched Eudora cry- Diego was too tired to hold anything in right now, was still processing A LOT. Sitting here quietly seemed fine for now.
When she did speak, Diego looked up softly at her and huffed in amusement. "I... fully believe that. Now be honest with me... does it look that bad? I didn't actually understand half of what the doctors told me about my injuries..." And one of his ears was still ringing- he frowned at that.

She raised an eyebrow, āWhat are you talking about, silly.ā Grace knew he felt guilty, she didnāt want to make it worse. He had been right to switch her off before she wasnāt functioning properly, Pogo had fixed many of her problems but not all of them. There was still too much on her code that was wrong.
āHow are you? Is everything okay? You look upset, sweetie.ā
Diego wanted to tell her what had just happened, but was it worth worrying her if this was something she couldn't control? He argued with himself internally before deciding he'd talk to Pogo later. Of course Pogo would be able to fix this; there was no point worrying Mom right now.
"I'm... I'm fine Mom. Just... thought I saw something that worried me. But it's okay. I'm okay." He tried to smile comfortingly, laying a hand over her own.

Eye for an Eye
ft. @insolentbratx
Five frowns, carefully considering Diegoās question. Is there something going on with you?
He wasnāt sure where to start. The nightmares. The flashbacks. The fact that he hadnāt slept since he fell out of the hole in the sky. The persistent nagging thought that they were all going to die and he wouldnāt be able to stop it. He was a mess, jumbled up in his head until he wasnāt sure where to catch his next thought. He pockets the prosthetic eye, keeping his hand clenched around it firmly. It was grounding.
āJesus, Diego. Quit worrying. Iām alright,ā he lies smoothly, easily, leveling him with a smile that reads more smug than reassuring. āBesides, I can be quite persuasive.ā Heās gotten Diego to come this far, hasnāt he? He goes to get out of the car, then hesitates. He feels like heās done this before, but things wereā¦different. He tries not to dwell on it.
For a while it looked like Five was going to say something- REALLY say something- which Diego had not expected at all when he'd asked the question, and he would NOT have been able to deal with- but soon the moment passed anyway.
Diego didn't fall for bullshit as easily as Five seemed to assume, but he let his brother's response go for now. There were more important things to do than have a family therapy session. He opened his own door, getting out of the car quickly.
"Whatever. You coming or what?" He started walking, having definitely picked up on Five's hesitation. "Just promise me you won't choke and leave me hanging in there. You have way more answers about this shit than I do."
He checked that his knives were all secure in their proper places, realizing that maybe it wasn't a great idea for their flimsy cover if he had them with him, but Diego shrugged off the thought. Better safe than sorry when it came to the apocalypse, he figured.
"I'll follow your lead."

Diego sat down on the bed next to his brother, hoping he could convey how serious he was about getting justice for this accident. If one thing was clear, it was that this wasnāt an accident at all. Heād take this straight to Dad if he had to. But he had to keep playing it cool, for Klausās sake. Diego wanted his brother to trust him to do all this, to tell him completely on his own because of that trust.
āI was j-just wondering,ā he said with a shrug, āHeās supposed to be our leader, right? Figured heād⦠check in on you.ā Diego HAD actually seen many of the others stop by, but not Luther. Perfectly suspicious.
āBut heās probably so busy, maybe he hasnāt had time yet.ā
Klaus felt his heart still pounding in his chest as Diego sat down next to him. He still wasnāt sure why his brother wanted to know if Luther had visited himā¦Ā
[Probably busy with whatever training Dad told him to do.] It hurt him to call ReginaldĀ ādadā right now but he couldnātā¦
His eyes went wide. Wait.Ā
[You think Luther did this?] He wrote quickly in his squiggly handwriting. Shit. He couldnāt let Luther take the blame as much of a bully the other was⦠Luther wouldnāt do something like this to him. At least he hoped not.
[Diego, it wasnāt Luther. It wasnāt any of our siblings.] He paused, trying to come up with something. He couldnāt just tell him the truth. Fuck.Ā
[Just forget about it, alright? I donāt want anyone to get into trouble.] Especially not over him.Ā
Klaus's reaction confused Diego. He'd definitely realized that Diego suspected Luther, but Diego had NO idea why he'd try to defend or protect him. And he COULDN'T just forget it- not now, not when there was a mystery in front of him, and Klaus to avenge.Ā
Diego narrowed his eyes in thought. It would make sense if Luther had threatened Klaus to stay quiet. He didn't know what kind of dirt Luther might have, but there were definitely a lot of secrets Klaus had that Luther could spill.
"Listen, Klaus, you can tell me anything, you know? I'll protect you. I won't let him do this to you again. If... if you want to keep this a secret, that's your choice, but if you're ready to tell me, I will make him pay..."
He looked back at the notebook, something else Klaus had written catching Diego's eye. "Wait... what do you mean, 'it wasn't any of our siblings...'?" That only left Dad, Pogo, and Mom... and Diego didn't think any of them would be capable of something like this. Unless... Klaus had done this to himself...
