Honestly at this point I am not letting Cops being at Pride in my town stop me from going to Pride.
Especially during this administration. If we don't show up at Pride then eventually they will stop having city funded Pride altogether. And that would be a devastation for our community.
Pride invigorates families, individuals, seniors, and ESPECIALLY kids. Trans kids, gay kids, Pride is a day where they can feel like the community is there supporting them. If it goes away, then they won't have that anymore. And I won't stand for that. Trans and queer people and kids are committing suicide at a rate way worse than the first Trump admin.
We have to show them that we can keep going. And that cops being at pride isn't going to stop us from being proud of who we are.
Of course I have tried to tell my city council to get rid of cops at pride. But so far it's a non starter. They consider it "required" if there is a parade of any kind or large event of any kind. Our city Council is run by Gen Xers and I don't have the time and ability to run myself.
I'm not going to stop advocating against cops at pride and giving them dirty looks when they are, but I'm not going to let it keep me from showing up. Especially when a local pride doesn't cost money to attend. I wouldn't recommend going to a big city pride if It requires you to buy tickets, that's exploitive.
So the police can ride their little bikes and pretend that they're there for the good of the public or whatever. And I'll continue to tell my local government that I don't want my taxes going to Cops at Pride and that it's an insult to Pride.

authorâs note:Â little ficlet because why not have some wildmoore fluff? Playing fast and loose with a future wherein Sophie knows that Ryan is Batwoman but hasn't officially joined the Bat-Team. also, there's flirting. + read on ao3
Itâs Gotham Pride, and Ryanâs got her signature flannel tied around her waist so everyone can get a good look at her lesbian, Batwoman muscle tee. Itâs got the Bat symbol in the center of her chest with the lesbian flag colors filling it out. Itâs the closest Ryan will ever get to admitting that sheâs Batwoman, and most of Gotham will still never put it together.
Sophie might, if the little smirk on her face as she approaches Ryan is any indication. The Crow cuts her way through a few parade goers to get to Ryan. For her part, Ryan makes a show of putting her hands on her hips in disapproval.
âDidnât you hear? No cops at Pride.â Ryan happily motions her head towards a poster for it. A more apt ACAB posterâs below it, but if Sophie sees that one, well, itâs not on Ryan.
Sophie chuckles. âIâm not a cop.â
âNo Crows either.â Even one whoâs somehow weaseled her way onto the Bat Team.
Sophie shrugs, as a slow smile overtakes her face. Ryanâs eyebrows furrow at the silence. At the relief and almost nervous hope in Sophieâs eyes. That look isnât just an off duty officer looking for community. Thatâs an I finally did it; arenât you proud of me kind of look.
Ryan laughs. âHoly shit. Holy -- are you serious!?â
Sophie smooths the blank space of her shirt where her Crows badge used to reside. âI figured there are other ways to protect this city.â She steps in close to Ryan -- closer than theyâve ever been. Sophieâs voice drops as her eyes catch Ryanâs. âI hear thereâs another team with an opening.â
âHmm?â Ryan can hear her blood rushing in her ears. âAnd who told you that?â
Sophie leans over to whisper in Ryanâs ear. âBatwoman.â
Ryan barely suppresses a shiver. She can almost feel the smirk on Sophieâs lips. âNow youâre lying on Batwoman. Thatâs bold.â
âI can get bolder if you can get...â
Ryan glares. âDonât say it--â
âWilder.â Sophie snorts the moment she says it. A full bodied laugh follows the snort, and Ryan shoves Sophie away before Sophie can continue the bad joke.
Ryan has to project to talk over Sophieâs laugh. âYour last name is literally Moore! You donât see me making jokes.â
But Sophie just clicks her tongue and swipes a tear from the corner of her eye. âYouâre missing out. It's great material. I'd give you more but--â
Ryan actively turns around at that point. She starts walking off into the crowd, and Sophie has to jog a few steps to grab Ryan's wrist and stop her. The slight distance gives Ryan a moment to school her features into something serious. Something determined and not at all entertained by Sophieâs antics. Until, of course, Sophie reaches for Ryanâs shoulders to turn her around to face Sophie again.
âOkay, enough jokes. Just....â Sophie takes a breath. âItâs Pride, and I really would like to spend it celebrating the fact that for the first time in my life, I am an out, Black lesbian with nowhere else Iâd rather be. And no one else Iâd rather be with.â
That makes Ryan smile. Her voice pitches up. âNo one?â
Sophie scans the audience. âWell, Rihannaâs not making her way to Gotham anytime soon so--â She ducks from Ryanâs swat at her. âNo one. So, are you gonna keep playing hard to get, or can we actually have some fun today?â
Ryan scoffs. âI havenât even begun to play hard to get.â She isnât lying either. The only issue is that Sophie may have gotten her before the game could even begin.
âMaybe this will sweeten the deal?â Sophie turns around so Ryan can get a good look at the back of Sophieâs shirt. Itâs another unlicensed Bat shirt with the logo on it, and in bold print, it reads: PROUD OF OUR GIRL.
Ryan rolls her eyes, but she does reach out to squeeze Sophieâs hand. âIâm proud of you too.â Not that sheâs ever letting anyone else hear her say it. âNow, come on. They donât have Rihanna, but they do have good music over here.â
