*Enid’s phone begins to chime*

Wednesday: That will be your father. Now if you’ll excuse me, I must dispose of some evidence.

Enid: *watches Wednesday stalk away, then checks her phone*

Enid: 🫢

Enid: 😐

Enid: 😗

Enid: Oh my god! I can’t believe you guys drive all this way to camp

Wednesday: How else would we get here?

Enid: Like fly?

Wednesday: how would we get our stuff here?

Enid: rent stuff?

Gomez: the drive is half the gloom!

Enid: I know! I loved it! This is the same camp ground my family camps at

Pugsley: really? Are they here? -grinning mischievously-

Enid: OMG! Yes? And I know exactly which site the should be at. My mom always reserves the same one.

Wednesday: -laying out a map of the campground- we are here. We always reserve this one

Enid: Wait? At this time? The same time and the same campsite?

Wednesday: yes

Enid: We could have met! -laughing-

Lurch: -grumbled and handed Wednesday what looked like a horn-

Wednesday: Do you want to go out tonight Lurch?

Lurch: -grumbled-

Pugsley: heheh. Let’s take a bit of a walk to the other side to where your family is, Enid. Lurch. Get your suit on

Enid: suit? What suit? And what’s with that horn thingy?

Wednesday blew into it. An inhuman animal like scream came out.

Enid: OMG! I’ve heard that sound!! My brothers said it’s Bigfoot! My mom came shrieking from the outhouse one time claiming she saw it! It was you? Lurch in the suit? And you and Pugsley making noises?

Wednesday: Probably? We have been doing this for years. It was Uncle Fester’s idea. We should change as well.

Dressed all in black, Wednesday, Enid and Pugsley walked toward the other side of the camp ground to where the Sinclair family set up camp. Lurch followed dressed as Bigfoot. Pugsley had sprayed them all with a mixture of skunk scent and pine.

Enid’s eldest brother noticed the smell first

Evan: Oh God. What is that smell?

Esther: it’s that smell!!

Murray: Bigfoot? It doesn’t exist. It’s probably just a skunk

Elan: Then explain why Bigfoot is sometimes called Skunk Ape? I’ve seen him too!

Lurch started to move. Pugsley blew his horn. It made a low grow.

Enid and Wednesday started moving hitting trees with the bats they had. Enid tried not to chuckle as she watched her family begin to panic. Lurch went one way, Pugsley another, making roaring noises with his horn. Lurch grumbled. Her bothers screamed running in circles. Enid and Wednesday circled in another direction. Wednesday blew her horn. The loud scream it made caused Esther to start screaming as well as a couple of her brothers started crying. Pugsley made a few loud hungry growls with his horn. Wednesday made her way closer and let out a loud scream with her horn. Lurch burst out and Pugsley blew horn again. Lurch quickly ducked back into the forest and he and Pugsley ran off. Enid followed Pugsley because she couldn’t hold in her laughter. Wednesday watched as the Sinclair family panicked. Esther yelling at her husband to do something. Wednesday circled and blew her scream horn again as she caught up with Enid. They could hear Esther screaming in fear and yelling at her sons as to why they couldn’t wolf out and chase the creature. Gomez: Lurch! I see you are having fun in your Sasquatch suit.

Lurch: -grumbling his delight-

Morticia: wait. Enid? You mean your family is one of the campers we scare every year?

Murray Sinclair, the Anishinaabe senator and renowned Manitoba lawyer who led the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, has died at age 73. Sinclair died at a Winnipeg hospital early Monday morning "peacefully and surrounded by love," his family said in a statement. And as I'm taking notes and pausing to look for details, I the scene with Enid standing up to her mother comes on.

And I am now absolutely certain that Murray talked to her off screen and encouraged her to refuse the "offer" of going to summer camp.

Actually, I think the whole fandom has misjudged Murray, that he's much more vocally supportive of Enid than we see. We've all called him compliant and mute but that's just because he's a minor, one-episode character! His expressions and vitally Enid's dynamic with him says so much if you just look a little.

When Enid first approaches her family we see her iconic interaction with her mother, but after she sarcastically says 'Missed you too, mom' she turns to Murray, visibly lights up and says 'you too, Dad.' And I think that's genuine. Back to her final scene of the episode, as they begin walking Esther tells her to pick her club activities, and Enid hesitates for a few seconds before stopping up with a resounding 'No.' And in that pause Murray does a little nod! They'd planned this! And after Enid's finished her speech, Esther's eyes (her face is sadly filling the screen at this point) flick to Murray before she huffs and sets off. Immediately afterwards, Enid spins to her father (who was smiling and standing symbolically behind her the whole time) with an above average sized grin, again, like they'd planned this and she was looking for pride/assurance/all-of-the-above. Which is where he delivers the 'Proud of you kiddo' with absolutely zero shock.

So I think:

A) Murray helped Enid confront her mother.

B) He's not the pushover he's often portrayed as, just doesn't want to make a scene in public (still bad, but far from inexcusable)

and C) That the bond between Enid and Murray is probably much stronger than I, at least, thought, and that he's her favorite person in the family.

Esther: Gawd no, honey! I just made assumptions based on what you told me.

Murray, holding a growling Polly: We thought this little pupper came out of an egg.

Wednesday:

Enid: Wait. You think Wednesday laid an egg and hatched out Polly?

Esther: When I asked what kind of outcast she was, you told me Wednesday was a magic bird.

Enid: I said she was a Raven type Psychic!
