I'm in No Decisions November so will not be taking any action on this (either way) until the new year, but is it insane to enquire about joining the Board at my local rape crisis centre?
I got help from them in 2017-18 which really seriously turned my life around and I love them. I love the work they do. It could not be more important especially cause we're in a surge in sexual and gendered violence.
funding, terf harassment and the general shitty state of things has put them in a position where their future might be in jeopardy and I would like to try to do what I can to turn this around
there is a lot that needs fixed and I think I have the skills to help fix it
I have relevant skills and experience both as a survivor, as someone who's both been supported by and done work with the centre, someone whose done an amount of survivor advocacy, and a charity comms professional with a history of working in related sectors and managing internal and external crises.
I want to be Doing Something Good and I'm flopping in and out of more casual activism, this would be something structured that kept me focused
get to hold CEOs accountable when needed
there is like a 25% chance this would just end up being self-harm for all the reasons listed above

my friend started talking about how I would be a great Trustee for the centre then immediately said NO WAIT I BAN YOU FROM VOLUNTEERING bc they know. I have a habit of overcommitting myself to things that are stressful and exhausting.
idk setting myself a deadline of March to decide and committing not to decide until at least January. can't be trusted to make life decisions in November cause at this time of year I always feel BOTH a) that I have no time or energy to do anything and b) that I Should And Must do more. so no November decision can be trusted that's why they call it NOvember.
