I was wondering if you had any tips for hiding your gender from people you don't want to know. My dad's side of my family is homo- and transphobic, and I recently got a ton done to help make me look more masculine, like getting my hair cut and eating a lot of testosterone boosting foods, and some of my family is getting suspicious.
There’s not an easy way to answer this unfortunately. Some of these things that I’m going to suggest may cause dysphoria.
When I was in the closet these where the things I did to hide my identity.
- Wear hoodies. Hoodies are really great because they aren’t masculine or feminine so no one will think its odd to wear unless its really hot but they allow you to sorta hide your curves so it helps for that.
-Paint your nails. This is a bit more feminine but its not a huge change that its easy to forget. Plus if its your aesthetic black is a good neutral color.
-Lip gloss. There’s lots of lip gloss around, some clear, some tinted. Its seen as feminine but its not a obvious thing. If need be you can say its a more “natural look”.
-Dresses/skirts. This has a high chance of causing dysphoria but it does what’s needed. A tip is to wear shorts or leggings underneath so it doesn’t feel like your wearing a dress/skirt.
These are just some things that will help with staying in the closet around family. They may cause dysphoria so be careful if you do chose to do any.
Just remimber that what you wear is not what you are. You are an amazing handsome man no matter what anyone tries to tell you. And please stay safe.
