huh. if Melina was automatically an Empyrean as a result of parthenogenesis in Marika/Radagon, but also automatically cursed like Miquella/Malenia (and Messmer with the Abyssal Snake), then the fact that she cast away her Empyrean body when she burned the first time could explain why she doesn't seem affected by anything in the game. it's the same as Miquella casting away his Empyrean flesh and returning in adult form as a divine spirit, whatever curse was gnawing at her is no longer there
