hey peeps, today I’ll be talking a bit about how much misophonia (literally translated as the hatred of sounds) affects the daily lives of those who suffer from it.
I came to realize today that I can’t remember when the last time was when I was truly relaxed.
My parents are on a short vacation and as my sister is studying somewhere else I was left home alone.
Since Saturday I have not once worn earbuds at home. I didn’t have to blast white noise that causes me a headache. I am able to leave my room and walk around ihr apartment without the constant bass sound which brings me to tears in one second by now. I can sleep without wearing earplugs. I can watch tv. I can eat by myself. And I can even bear the ticking noises of the clocks without being triggered or having to put in my earbuds.
You see- My fight and flight response is activated 24/7. Now some of you might say “well but not you’re sleeping”, I can only say: wrong!
Because even when both my parents are in the room and it is 3am I can’t put myself through turning down the white or pink noise, just in case my father clears ja throat. And when I dare to think I am save, I hear my fathers bare feet on the floor as he’s walking somewhere and panic and anxiety rushes through my body and I shove in my earbuds, because only thinking of him clearing his throat or sniffling brings me to tears. I have to sleep with earplugs and brown/ pink/ white noise blasting loudly from my phone, so I’ll maybe... MAYBE.. not get waken up by anything.
It is tiring. Constantly being on the verge of a breakdown. It is exhausting not being able to leave your room and not enjoying yourself in your room because you can hear the bass sound In your room.
And today I realised that the reason why I’ve been so calm in this week’s information lectures is, because I am truly relaxed at home!
I don’t know when the last time was that I felt this way and it honestly brings me to tears. Because I don’t know when I’ll feel like this again, if I ever will.
And at the same time it makes me so incredibly sad, because I should be happy spending time with my family, but although I am beyond grateful to them and love them, I can’t be around them. I can’t enjoy myself at home. It isn’t a save hafen. And it should be.
