Any recommendations on how to deal with irritating sounds that can't be helped? I was sitting in class today, and a girl a few rows ahead of me was sniffling away. Thing was, it reallllly irritated me. Like everyone else thought it was annoying, but my brain hyperfocused on it and refused to let me pay attention to anything but her sniffing. Obviously, she can't help having a cold, but I still felt the need to do really physical stims. Any recs on what to do?
Would it be possible to wear earplugs to block it out or even wear discreet earphones and play music to focus on instead? Also have you ever tried minfullness techniques? It’s when you learn to focus all your attention on different senses which can help to distract you from what’s stressing you out. It takes a lot of practice but apparently it’s really helpful.
