Millesimo is a small village set in the hills of the Bormida Valley northwest of Savona in Liguria. Although it is rather out of the way if you are visiting the Ligurian coast, Millesimo is well worth a visit and has several interesting historic sites. The piazza in the town centre is made up of a broad street lined with arcaded buildings and their arched windows. The most unusual, striking monument in Millesimo is the bridge called 'il Ponte della Gaietta' with its medieval defence tower and gateway in the middle. Fortified bridges like this are not a common sight in Italy compared to other European countries, so it's unique in its own right.
