Hi flatbear! I'm going to be in Auckland in a few weeks, and I'm going to do typical touristy things (glow worm caves, Hobbiton, ZORBING), as well as lots of hikes around the area to places like Rangitoto Island etc, but I was wondering if there were any should-dos that visitors often miss? We're only on the North Island for a week, but I'm open to suggestions! Sorry if this is an annoying ask, I'm from Toronto and if someone asked me for advice on Vancouver I'd be annoyed. (Canadian = sorry)

I don’t know how far down the island you’re going but get to Rotorua if you can. Yeah it’s super touristy and it’s your typical slice of ‘EXPERIENCE OUR CULTURE’ but look you totally should. The thermal pools and the geysers are amazing, the luge is so much fun, and you’re really close to Lake Taupo which you should DEFINITELY GO TO IT’S GORGEOUS.
As for less-touristy things, if you ARE travelling, go to Taranaki. It’s where I was born, and it’s just gorgeous. All farm land and beaches with a BIG FUCKING VOLCANO SLAPPED IN THE MIDDLE. New Plymouth is the biggest city in that area, make sure you go to the botanical gardens at night for the light shows.
HAVE FUN! Drink a shit-load of L&P and eat your body weight in Peanut Slabs!
