Ok. I totally see why medibang user only use it for bg because it’s actually not halftone! What they use are a type of layer called net dot and it’s considered as a Ben Day dot effect and not halftone! Here’s a graph to show the distinction:

What i use however are a type of pattern brush you can download from the program cloud. It’s still Ben-Day dot and not halftone as you can see.

Here’s how to find it and modify it to your liking!

Look for this pattern brush.

Then go to edit brush. Go down to shape and move it to 0 which give you circle! This brush is great because they also give you 13 shapes to choose from if you want to make other pattern! Then you can edit the shape size and spacing to your liking and even tilt the pattern grid it’s base on. And voila!

Here's a lil tutorial for how I draw lightning! The steps are as an image in the Read More! I hope I made enough sense but if not let me know, I’ll revise it :P

So I usually like to find reference photos on Pinterest. I don’t like to draw the reference exactly but sometimes I do when I’m doing figure studies like I was when I made this sketch:

I decided I wanted to make this digital so I uploaded it into MediBang and drew blocking over it. I didn’t want to trace it directly because I wanted to practice my blocking and adjust some of the proportions a bit:

After blocking I drew a base using my original sketch. If I was just using digital I would have more layers in between this step and the line art but since I was happy with my traditional drawing I just traced over it and made small adjustments.

Next I added a detail layer that I later overlaid on top of my color layer.

My color layer was flat colors only and I added the eyes last once I finished shading, so that’s why they’re shaded in this.

Next I did some shading over the whole drawing. To do my shading, I take away the line art layers and select the whole color layer, then re-add the line art.

After general shading, I selected separate parts of the color layer and did more precise shading and detail.

I also added a texture layer on top of this because I like the look of it.

Finally I added a gradient over the whole drawing and added another line art layer which I overlayed under the original line art.

hey fellas, i finally opened up medibang paint pro and...made a tutorial. :-) this is actually a remake too! the first drawing i did of miles was him holding whiskers, so this was like a little call back photo.

under “filter” > “extracting lines...”

you can play with the levels some, so if you have a light pencil sketch under your ink lineart you can isolate the ink, but i don’t know how much it can do if you started lining on the wrong layer and your sketch is the same color as your lineart. otherwise it does exactly what it says on the tin - it extracts the lines.

it will make the rest of the layer transparent, so if it is your sketch layer, make sure to copy it first.

edit: do be careful with those settings, because if your input is too high you can end up with jpeg artifacts

might just be because i made the mistake of opening the photo as a project instead of a layer though. be mindful anyway
