Baker Gem × Police Pearl - AU

Word count : 940 (real short 💔)

Notes / summary : Gem in this AU is a Baker, she owns her own bakery for awhile now, and just a few months ago a police officer had started coming in regularly. That police officer being Pearl, a newbie officer that had just started patrolling the area.

(Gem POV! : Still a newbie writer)

A mid spring day, of course today was going to be busy. It was a wonderful day for a cookie or sweet bread. I just wish there hadn't been a rush every other hour. . . I barley had time to breathe. I decided to sit a table tucked away in the corner, if a customer came in at least I'd hear the bell jingle, a quick nap wouldn't hurt

. . .

!Jingle!

"Hmmm..." I could feel a hand petting my head, but I was far to tired to check who it really was.

"My bad gemmy, did I wake you?" A siren like voice was muttering words I could very barley make out. It took my a few more groans to fully get my head up and look at the person in front of me.

A tall, brown haired women sat in front of me, looking at me with such a sweet gaze. She smiled at my attempt to make out who she was, and as it hit I felt completely flushed.

"Pearl?! Oh my, what are you doing here? What time is it!?" Oh no no no, I had fallen asleep. That was not a quick nap for all I had known I could've slept for hours!

"Calm down, it's only six thirty, And I've been here for at best twenty minutes making sure you got some rest undisturbed." My face was probably completely red by now, I had completely passed out for maybe around 30 minutes and this... this woman didn't think to even wake me up! Embarrassment was such an understatement when it came to how I was feeling.

"You should've woken me up Pearlll.. ." My hands covered my face but truly that did nothing, I could see through them that that dog of an officer was smiling like a crazy person. She was completely loving this.

"I didn't want to wake you up, I had heard from some towns people that this place was up and at em since you opened. So I just wanted to let you take a few moments to rest, nothing wrong with that is there?"

I couldn't even argue with her on that. Today had been a long day, even before I opened there was a bit of a line outside. And once I did it was hectic, bread crumbs everywhere, jam in more places than one. And oh the loud and unfiltered voices of people coming in and out. Not one hour of the day went by without a child yelling about a toy or a person having a zoom meeting out in the open. Never have I ever appreciated performative people more than today, because oh how I wished a silent person would have come in at any moment. Even just one would've been nice. But it was just order after order after order. Even once my employees came in it was still so much chaos. But, now that Pearl was here, it felt so silent. So calming like a lone moon in the sky. Unconsciously I had zoned out while staring into her eyes,

"You lost in my big ol orbs?" She giggled a bit and that had made me zone back in,

"Ah, sorry. Just zoned out a bit, today was indeed a very long day." I put my hand on my cheek and closed my eyes a bit, only to rest for a moment.

"You know Gem. Just sitting there so open is dangerous..." A slight whisper, I could feel her breath on my hand, right next to my ear. It has sent a sort of shock through my skin,

"Eh?! What do u mean by that you weirdo.."

She grinned immensely as I opened my eyes to see her so close to me.

"Just thought I'd tell you it might be time to close up shop don't you think?" It was only 6:30 -

7:00

Time was against me today, in what world had we been sitting there for around 30 minutes. But she did have a point, no matter how tired I was it was better to close up the bakery and head home for the night than to stay here and potentially risk a robbery or something. . .

"Ok ok... If I'm closing up then you need to leave" I sighed as I got up putting my hand to the table to assist me as I felt a cold grip grab my wrist. "Yes Pearl?"

She hadn't turned her head my way but I could tell she had a frown on her face. I sighed once more as I turned to her and patted her head as she did to me, I knew she didn't want to go so soon. Usually she'd be here at noon and stay a little while longer, but recently she's gotten assigned overtime due to frequent break ins around the area. So our one on one time had gotten cut short, I could tell she was upset from the day she told me to now.

"Sorry Gemmy, I didn't mean to hold on so tight" her voice was silent, so soft but so distraught. We hadn't known one another for long, only recently meeting a few months back as a new officer and the towns bakery owner. But even just from that short amount of time it seems like we had grown a bit attached to one another.

"You're alright Pearl, I'm just going to close up shop, please wait right here as I finish up ok?" She still hadn't turned to look at me but she nodded her head as I walked off to the front to close the doors.

Idk if I should continue this or what but it's been in drafts for forever. . . 💔 Ill revisit it once I have motivation again but I just wanted this one out of my drafts ! ! So sorry for the very lazy writing aswell motivation has not been hitting me at all.
