Thing that makes me crazy is that the only times I see people talk about the gravity of slavery in antiquity is when they want to be racist and the rest of the time it's actually not that bad(tm)
#like people will remember slavery is bad if it's about Africans (as the enslavers not the enslaved people do NOT want to acknowledge the#horrors of the transatlantic slave trade like ever bc then they'd have to be antiracist about it).#like ummm this entire culture and civilization is horrible bc some of them owned slaves#and like#I'm fine TALKING abt that if we actually are having a conversation abt enslaved peoples experiences#but its never about that it's always some Black/Brown people do bad things so they all need to be punished for this#and the moment we start talking abt a society perceived as white like rome or greece suddenly its super nuanced#and really the conditions weren't that bad and it was just the way of life back then you can't blame them etc
