Light is the first person to ever come close to understanding L because he is the only person who’s intelligent enough to do so. Where L has grown used to repeating himself and dumbing himself down so that the people he works with will be able to understand his complex thought process, Light’s mind works so similarly that he ends up being able to interpret L and translate his ideas to the task force near the end of the Yatsuba arc. So used to being seen as “other”, deified for his status as L or shunned for his oddities, Light comes the closest to seeing L as he is, and it makes him feel human, something he’s always wanted but never had.

L is the first person to understand Light because he’s the only person who’s ever been intelligent enough to peel back all of Light’s layers. L was able to figure out what made Light tick, he figured out when he was acting and when he wasn’t. Light, always the smartest person in the room growing up, felt threatened by being seen so clearly. He’s always been seen as the perfect son, the perfect brother, student, friend, boyfriend, because he’s purposefully acting that way. For someone to see all his faults is to strip him of that perfect image, and thus makes him human. Light was trying to become God, and L made him feel human.

The premade peppermint flavored power was shit, and Soap didn’t trust himself within 30 feel of peppermint extract, so he’d eventually figured out the best way was to steep a peppermint flavored tea and then add cocoa to that. And that worked super well!

The issue? Ghost.

And so of course Soap had to do it more.

He’d kept going with the peppermint tea for awhile, except after Ghost has actually tried the drink, and realized it was exceptionally good, that line of prank had stopped working. Of course the only reasonable next step was for Soap to move up to earl gray.

He thought it would be awful, Soap thought he’d have to put up with a weird mixture of tastes. And have to just lie to Ghost and say it was good just to get a rise out of him. Imagine his surprise when I actually tasted GOOD.

The bitter tea mixed with the sweet chocolate in a wonderful swirl of flavors and soap actually liked it. He liked it so much that it started replacing his morning coffee. Cocoa and earl gray.

Ghost was throwing light hearted fits again, all was right.

Until Soap ran out of cocoa. He’d forgotten he was out and had already steeped the tea, even already added the milk he’d begun using to make it thicker. He frowned at the cup, was he really going to poor it out?

Soap picked up the cup and took a tentative sip.

Soap froze.

No no no. NO! He’s made a terrible mistake. An irreversible error!
