Canon. Well, pre-canon

Henry stares at the papers on the table, feeling numb.

“Divorce, Maddie?”

She folds her arms over her chest, her jaw tight. “Yes.”

“After everything we’ve been through, this is how you want to end it?”

“I...” she takes a breath. “Think it would be better for both of us, if we erased any... obligations.”

“What,” he scoffs, “you think I feel obligated to love you, treat you with respect? You think I feel obligated to take care of Shawn?”

“If you read the papers-- they’re not final, mind you, we can shift things around if you want-- but if you read them, you’ll find that you have full custody of Shawn. And Henry... I know you love me, but it feels like you haven’t respected me for a long time.”

Henry blinks. “What? Mad, you’re the-- I’ve respected you, admired you, from the day we met! What makes you feel like I don’t?”

“You don’t listen, Henry,” she sighs, sounding tired. “I tried talking to you. I fucking begged you to take a little more time off, to come home at a decent time. I have pushed so hard for counseling, for even just a simple vacation, and you’ve been a-- a brick wall! I feel like I’m the only one trying to fix our marriage, Henry, and I’m sick of it. I’m done.”

He frowns at the papers, feeling a bit sick. “I didn’t realize our marriage needed fixing. I didn’t realize we were... here.”

When I started shipping it if I did: I don’t remember exactly. I definitely thought they were nice the first time I saw the show, but you’re the reason I started wanting them to get back together

My thoughts: Soft. In love. They should date again and get remarried

What makes me happy about them: Even though they’re divorced, they never held it against each other, and they’re very clearly still in love

What makes me sad about them: That Maddy shows up. So little.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: If people write them as having had an abusive marriage

Things I look for in fanfic: Just them being soft and good (grand)parents

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I like Henry with the shark lady, but there’s been no one else for Maddy

My happily ever after for them: They remarry and enjoy the retired life as grandparents to a Shules kid & Gus’s kids

Who is the big spoon/little spoon: Henry’s the big spoon

madry looks like hes in agony but he’s just annoying like that. he loves the attention <3
