the stars are vassals created by the Angel in marz's image because marz is its favorite thing ever. there's weird timeline stuff going on so the stars exist before and after she died, but they are all based on her. marz has various opinions on each of them but they're all mostly negative.

the Angel itself is a weird sort of invasive outside deity that has rooted itself in the setting, and is at odds with the original two deities that exist (particularly the White Serpent, the god of beasts that is trapped at the bottom of the hole). all of the house gods (like. the various factions) that exist in the hole stem from worship of the Angel, and each founder had their own guiding star !!

due to weird timeline stuff they all exist at different points in time but theyre all basically the same age and are functionally immortal until their host kills them (which happens eventually because they have some kind of tomie effect on people)

hamara is the star of Ruby, Witnessing, which is the house that riley originates from. she is her lady's favorite gladiator and personal guard and wife. she manifested on the earth like immediately after marz dies and she is still kickin.

her lady was marz's older co-wife who kinda bullied her so like. the original marz isnt sure how to feel about that

hannel is the star of The Flesh, Amygdala, the house that elias and his family rule. they manifested waaay long ago before the events of the main timeframe, and their lady was the mother of gwen and bertrand. after the original lady of the house dies, gwen turns him into a cool staff. hes like barely conscious

hekitt is from a house i havent introduced anywhere (but i will! eventually) but its the one that Amygdala was at war with that lost. she and hannel existed at the same time and were close and are basically twins but they still really wanted to kill each other (as is the nature of these things)
