particles lxxii particles lxxii could it be that words collaborate as the wood of the tree with the carpenter ripped from its earth robbed of roots its seasons done its flowering over its towering to the sky succumbed to the axe its life drained and dried to lie inert its trembling in the wind all stillness its growing all rings and grains and severed limbs its past all that’s left to it as piece of this or plank of that its origin the only reason brought to it its beauty in the world the waste it was stripped of to be nothing but its bareness as words themselves to be brought to life again

Ray Malone is an Irish writer and artist based in Berlin, in recent years working on a series of projects exploring the lyric potential of minimal forms derived from various musical and/or literary modes/models. The three 'particles' come, as the numbering implies, from an extended sequence, with no master plan or predetermined thematic, only a formal arrangement arrived at by a brief encounter with a cut-up machine. His work has been published in numerous print/online journals in the US, UK and Ireland.

Jerome Berglund has worked as everything from dishwasher to paralegal, night watchman to assembler of heart valves. Many haiku, haiga and haibun he’s written have been exhibited or are forthcoming online and in print, most recently in bottle rockets, Frogpond, Kingfisher, and Presence. His first full-length collections of poetry Bathtub Poems and Funny Pages were just released by Setu and Meat For Tea press, and a mixed media chapbook showcasing his fine art photography is available now from Yavanika.

One of the brighter members of the Virgo Cluster, M58 is a barred spiral galaxy. In other words, it is a spiral galaxy, but instead of a spherical bulge at its center, it has a bar-shaped structure at its center. About two-thirds of all spiral galaxies in the local universe have bars, including (perhaps) our own Milky Way.
