Some Hellenic rambling below the cutā¦
I was told earlier today that Persephone all but yelled in a fellow polytheistās ear, āTELL JEZ I SAY HI.ā Sheās been on my mind a lot lately, as Iāve been casting about for another deity to worship. Finding Lucifer was incredible and life-altering, but I also kept feeling like there was someone missing. After some research into other pantheons & glances at āwhich goddess fits youā type quizzes, I finally came back around to the one whoās been there all along, from my favorite myth for as long as I can remember. Both of these two seem like theyāve been present in my life since childhood, just on the fringes of my consciousness until I was ready to try reaching out to them.Ā
As Iāve continued to read and research (since this is my first time venturing into the Hellenic pantheon in any sort of literal, theistic sense), I wanted to talk about Persephone and to call myself a devotee of hersā¦but I kept feeling like I was being stopped at the gate, like I hadnāt earned it yet. Where Lucifer enjoys frank, philosophical discussions, I was getting the sense that Persephone actually wants a bit more of a formal devotion - and itās just occurring to me now thatĀ āhas a problem committingā was something Lucifer had observed about me, but, in his less direct way, he was more willing to just back off and let me stew until I sorted out what I wanted to do. That wasnāt going to fly with Persephone - I could walk away, of course, but I couldnāt call myself one of hers if I wasnāt going to do anything for her.Ā
And then, of course, as I sat here reading & oohing over pretty pomegranate-tinged imagery, I kept having this thought every time I saw a list of suggested devotionals:Ā āWater your houseplants.ā Over and over and over. (I have a lovely shelf & windowsill in my living room covered in potted plants, herbs and strawberries, and one mosquito-deterring plant that smells of lemon, plus a tiny flowering thing that I donāt know the name of, all brought inside for the winter & still going strongā¦except when I neglect to water them.)Ā
So I got up and watered them. And now here I sit, writing this post in declaration of my newfound devotion, after feeling like I got a satisfied, āThatās a good start,ā and a pat on the head from her.
