Manchester before MetrolinkÂ
1989
Scenes between Market Street and Victoria Station, following the route earmarked for the first Metrolink city crossing. We proceed along High Street, Nicholas Croft, across Shudehill to Balloon Street then across Corporation Street and Long Millgate. Groundwork has already begun, moving utilites and creating storage compounds for materials. Many Georgian and early Victorian buildings were soon to disappear, along with streets such as Cannon Street, Snow Hill and Bradshaw Street. We end with the concourse at Victoria, where a train departs for Bury from what was then platform 5.Â
