would kind of change your perspective of yourself and those around you, and maybe make you act a little differently.

the headcannon is nice, having genderfluid characters be shapeshifters isn’t inherently bad, but it’s bad when that’s the only representation. for example, marvel comics has 4 genderfluid characters and all of them are shapeshifters who are only male when they have an amab body and only female when they change to an afab body. keep headcannoning away, but be mindful and aware of harmful tropes and respectful to genderfluid people (especially those of you who are making the headcannons and aren’t genderfluid).

And then we met Sylvie. Now, I will not be addressing any relationships or romantic subplots today. Nor will I be tearing down the character, she's cool. However, I did see this as a cop out. That is not an 'acknowledgement of Loki's gender'. That is an entirely separate character. It's a pathetic attempt at claiming representation, while not angering the conservatives. (Trust me. I watched the show with my friend's queerphobic family. Having separate characters is the only thing that consoled them enough to keep watching)

This was not the end of the world. Tbh this was about the level of 'representation' I expected. If it was just that, I'd be fine. BUT THEN, in episode 5 our Loki asks the other variants excitedly, "Have you ever seen a female variant?" And. They. All. Answer. No. And while our Loki goes off on a tangent praising Sylvie, my heart dropped. That one line was enough to completely invalidate of any trace of genderfluidity. That line says they there has never been another female version of Loki. That line says that our Loki has never been a woman. This line says that every single Loki variant is a cisgender male.
