Broke: Lance will never have his character arc or flashbacks.
Woke: Lance was the first paladin and person given importance in Season 1 and this might mean he'll have his character arc on the last season!! The show started with Lance and it might end with Lance.

But he also wants to impress his crush, Lance because who doesnât love our precious lover boy?
One day, he notices Lance talking to his younger siblings in Spanish and holy shit how does he make that language sound so pretty???
He is then floored by his epitome that, of course! He needs to learn Spanish!
And who better to teach him than Lance, am I right?
Lance is ecstatic that someone, especially stoic and fellow sharpshooter Kinkade, is interested in learning Spanish
Kinkade sets up his camera to record Lance during their lessons
âWhy do you need your camera?â
Cue gay panic âUh...well, I really like to film, so I thought if I recorded you speaking for reference, it would help me practice better...â
âOh, I didnât even think of that! Here, let me move it so you can get my best angle.â *wink*
Kinkade is internally screaming that every angle is his best angle
But donât think Kinkade isnât tackling learning Spanish as hard and determined as he would any mission
And itâs totally not because he blushes slightly every time Lance beams whenever Kinkade remembers a new vocab term or pronounces a sentence correctly. Itâs not his fault that Lance is this beautiful
Lance starts speaking Spanish more and more during casual conversations with Kinkade, so of course Kinkade has to keep his camera with him at all times to record these moments too because...you know....for reference
Kinkadeâs team is happy because itâs been so long since he has had his camera out, but they wish they knew what the videos were that was making Kinkade smile so fondly whenever he reviews them
And Lance becomes just more happy overall since, honestly, he loves Spanish and likes venting his insecurities and other sensitive topics to Kinkade in Spanish since, for some reason, he is super easy to talk to (it also helps that he thinks Kinkade doesnât know what he is saying most of the time)
Donât underestimate this pining boy, Lance. Heâs a quick learner
As their connection deepens, Lance slowly starts growing feelings and you know what? Screw it. And he starts dropping flirty quips and one-liners in Spanish during their lessons.
Kinkade thinks, to hell with it, and slowly starts sending amazing one-liners back that just make Lance blush head-to-toe because ok, wow, no one should be this hot suave
Meanwhile, Keith and Pidge have a bet on who will finally confess first
Keith says Lance, obviously, but Pidge is rooting for Kinkade because, perceptive as always, she noticed his crush ages ago
Overall, though, they are just tired of the constant flirting and secret glances when they think the other isnât looking
Sorry-not-sorry for the hella long post, but I am just a sucker for this two adorable boys pining in Spanish ¯\_(ă)_/ÂŻ . Feel free to add on to this! I didnât want to make it too long, and the more love for these two, the better :D

lance/kinkade / mutual pining / rivals to lovers / 1264 words / 2 part ongoing
âTwenty-sixâ is not a greeting by any standards, but itâs the first thing out of McClainâs mouth upon seeing him at the rendezvous point. Ryan watches his rifle dematerialize in his hands until it becomes a short, U-shaped handle. A âbayardâ, heâd called it several weeks ago at the shooting range. Itâs about as cool an alien weapon as you can get, it seems, materializing from nothing into a gun or sniper rifle at McClainâs beck and call.
He shouldnât have started counting the shots. Thatâs what spoke this rivalry into existence.
(Or; what begins as a kind of competition between Lance and Kinkade develops into a sort of friendship. For now, at least.)
From the anon that sent the "thanks i love it" this morning, considering Kinkade was already interested in understand how Lance's sniper can you imagine his reaction when Lance whips around and just fucking transforms the damn thing into another gUN OR AN ENTIRE SWORD??
hi again!! and omg thats so good, like, damn, he was already interested in how the thing worked, but that bayard is a swiss army knife of weaponry in lances skilled hands and boy does he know how to use it!
pls give me that content of kinkade asking lance to show him some tricks w the closer range rifle, and lance curving in close behind him to make adjustments to his stance while he chatters happily over his shoulder, never thinking twice about being so close to others. but for kinkade, most ppl dont get this close, and more specifically he doesnt LET them get this close, but this....Â
this is ok
lance jokingly asks him if he doesnt want to start training w a sword, too, and kinkade might tease him about bringing a knife to a gunfight, but he just might surprise lance with taking him up on the basics. its a whole different wheelhouse, and its bound to need a whole lot more hands-on adjusting and face to face closeness when they get around to sparring...
Lance and Ryan take a moment together, as the Earth rebuilds itself, and life continues on.

It had taken the better part of the day, but Lance had finally finished cleaning the majority of the room heâd been assigned to.
The floor was clean, now, chairs neatly packed and stacked to the sides. The countertops, what remained, wiped down and in need of a little rebuilding. At the center, Lance leaned his palms, one over the other, and cushioned his chin on top of his broom handle and smiled a little wistfully. He knew this place. Heâd come here with Marco, Luis, and Veronica as kids.
His grandparents had come here a lot when theyâd packed their family up and moved. Theyâd come here, swaying to music on the dance floor Lance was roving his eyes over, picturing the way his grandparents must have twirled each other. He could remember joining hands with his siblings, forming a circle, and pulling at each other until they got dizzy and fell, laughing and laughing.
It seemed as good as any place to help with rebuilding, big and quiet, and close to his heart. The destruction heâd walked into had pulled something nasty in Lanceâs gut. It had taken a little searching, but Lance had found the old place again, under the mess, and had lovingly raised it with his hands. Ironic considering the way heâd gripped at Redâs control, his bayard not that long ago.
It would have probably gone faster with more hands, but Lance had wanted to be alone. Ever since heâd come back, itâd been hard to find a moment to breathe. He had missed his family like crazy, but there were times, after being surrounded by his comrades for as long as he had, he had gotten used to enjoying quiet moments alone.
He couldnât help a snort at that.
To think, a couple months - years? - back, he would have gone crazy at the thought of being alone for too long, always used to someone in his space at all times. His families hands and voices pulling at him, the hum of ever present noise and movement all around him. He could sleep through just about everything, back then. Came with the perks of a naturally lively household.
Now, though, Lance enjoyed the quiet moments. He knew it confused his family. Heâd changed so much, and he wasnât sure how much of his old self had even remained. Enough to fall back into step the moment heâd dropped his bags in his old rooms when the hospitals had released him, and had moved around in perfect tandem with his mother in the kitchen, albeit a little creakily on his prosthetics. Sometimes, not so much. When he got too quiet at the dinner table, tucked away alone at times, palms itching for his bayard.
A door creaked open and slowly creaked back shut. In the quiet, a pair of boots echoed on the floors; Lance looked over his shoulder. His brows jumped to his hairline, though his lips quirked into a grin not that long after. A familiar pair of lips softly grinned back. Kinkade. Ryan, Lance affectionately thought.
âFancy seeing you here,â Lance greeted.
Kinkade stopped a short ways away, arms crossing. He looked around, dark eyes appraising Lanceâs handiwork, giving it a thoughtful hum. Lance couldnât help the way his grin got bigger.
âNot bad,â Kinkade said. âKogane joked that youâd end up getting fed up and take a nap halfway through.â
Lance scoffed, laughing a little. Keith wasnât wrong. Halfway through he had gotten tired and dozed accidentally in one of the ratty couches. Heâd snored too loud and woken himself up, jumping back into action. But Keith didnât need to know that. When he saw Keith later, though, he knew his friend would be able to tell instantly, and part of him was eager for the chance to playfully argue about it.
âKeith also thinks green ketchup is good,â Lance teased.
Kinkade shook his head, playfully rolling his eyes. Lance couldnât even begin to tell when theyâd gotten so comfortable with each other. One moment theyâd been awkward mission buddies, and the next Kinkade was zeroing Lance out in a crowd, eagle eyes sharp, in only a fellow sharpshooter should be. Theyâd gravitate towards each other, Lance a little more obviously, and Kinkade, seemingly smooth in a way that made it seem like he was just circling his way around and had, as always, just ended up next to Lance. A brush of hands became pinkies intertwined, had become palms pressed together, and ducked heads and soft words murmured low and secret.
Like heâd come to do, Kinkade reached out for one of Lanceâs hands, then took the other. The broom clattered to the floor loudly, but Lance was too busy smiling and being pulled in towards the other boyâs body to bother to react. Kinkade pressed a kiss to his knuckles, shyly looking away, as always Lance gleefully thought, as Lance returned the favor. It had become something of a thing between whatever was developing between them, and Lance was never going to give it up.
âHey, RyRy, did you know this used be a prime dancing spot?â Lance asked.
Kinkade quirked a brow. âOh yeah?â
âYup,â Lance popped the p. He hooked his arms loosely around Kinkadeâs shoulders. Â âMy grandparents came here, and my parents came here, just to cut a rug. Even Marco brought his wife here when they were dating. Got a bit of McClain family charm weaved in, ya know?â
Kinkade lazily cupped his hands together at the small of Lanceâs back, bracketing Lanceâs hips between them. Gently, he shifting Lance into a sway, teeth peeking out in a teasing grin as Lance took a step back, excited when Kinkade naturally followed. His prosthetic still felt weird, foreign against his body. If he stumbled a bit, Kinkade would shift, hands sliding to his hips almost naturally, until Lance had rebalanced, then draped his arms loosely again. For every step, forward or back, they swayed, slow and easy and in sync.
âBit of a mess now, though,â Kinkade mused. âNever been here, to be honest. Make sure you show me when itâs all fixed up.â
Lance tapped at the back of his neck, waggling his eyebrows when Kinkade shook his head, bending down to press their foreheads together.
âYouâll be the first person I tell the minute itâs all ready to go,â Lance said.
Kinkade nodded. âGood.â
Lance tucked his head under Kinkadeâs chin, pressing his face into the curve of his neck, humming out an gentle tune. There was still a lot of cleaning left to do, other rooms to salvage, but it could wait a little while longer. They could stay here and dance a little while more.

AN: AU-ish. Written to Billie Holidayâs âI'll Be Seeing Youâ. Its kind of canon-y, written with a bit of âpost ww2-ish sweetheartsâ as the inspo for this. Idk how to explain. But Lance loses his legs. Heâs still learning to walk with it. Ngl itâs really fake deep LOL. I canât remember the post, but someone mentioned that only Lance (and I imagine his family) call Kinkade Ryan. While Lance used a bunch of different variations. RyRy is my favorite.
Tbh, this wouldnât be a bad Adashi AU, either.
Should I post this on AO3? Would anyone want that?
