Day 2: Which language/s do you want to learn while doing this challenge?

Hello everyone, welcome to day 2! Just as sunny as yesterday but colder (приветствую, осень) ☁️

I would love to learn German, but it's hard to study on my own. As I mentioned I'm not a fan and if it weren't for the uni classes I would be far behind. I want to learn it anyway, although I really have to find a better motivation. I don't hate it, yet something's pushing me back. I enjoy the uni classes probably because of the teacher, and the fact that I'm also learning Russian, because we're studying it from Russian. Today I'm gonna try to study a bit, at least some verbs or vocab 🫐

I want to learn Italian as well. One of my closest friends is italian and I told him I would study the language over the summer, but I was too busy (I went to another city and walked 22k steps a day). Nevertheless, the language is really beautiful and I know I would make my 15 year old self happy. I also have someone to practice with by default ☺️

Lastly, I'm gonna keep on studying Russian the way I am now. No grammar exercises, just talking, writing, reading and listening. I guess that's called immersion? I hope to finish the book I'm currently reading soon.

1st day

Day 1: Which languages can you speak besides your native language

- I can speak English pretty well. :)

- I can speak a bit of Swedish and French. Like I think I could order food. Then again I might not understand their response😅 (Edit: i take that back. I would need a refresher course in Swedish. But not now. Right now my target language is Dangme.)

- I can speak Dangme like a three year old. Pointing at objects babbling endearingly.

day three: are there any apps you use to learn languages?

i actually have a massive post i made.........last year? rounding up all the apps (and websites) i used at the time to keep up with my chinese studies. now i'm at the point with reading and writing, finally, that i don't need it, since i can just read things and text my friends, but i still stand by (most of) those apps (still deeply sad that dot languages started charging a subscription though :/)

for korean, i've used lingory and busuu, and i think they're both pretty good. my busuu subscription ends soon and i'm not planning on paying for it again (i hate spending money), but lingory, even though it has ads, is very solid, so i don't think i'll have a problem there. there's also the TOPIK prep app, which i'm planning on using once i hit probably ~A2 level, and i need to look for some graded reader apps as well.

seems i am still quite bad at vocab - so many mistaaaaaaaakes in my translation exercise argh.

continuing with the language challenge by lunlun after a pause, so here we go:

day 11: is there a certain method you use to learn languages?

i am a textbook person...after getting the basics, i am trying to build my own sentences and read articles/books.

day 12: which of the extinct languages would you like to learn if you could?

studied latin at school for a while and a teacher spoilt it for me in the end (infinite boredom). maybe i would get back to latin.

Oh yes. I mainly learn with apps at the moment and only have 2 textbooks (as .pdf).

LingoDeer -> main app, grammar and sentences, contextual vocabulary, great pronunciation

LingoDeer+ -> vocabulary/ sentences, gamified

Drops -> vocabulary, great visualization

Memrise -> vocabulary, clips of natives, a lot of community-made lists

Teudia -> speaking, real-life clips

Papago -> beginner-friendly dictionary

NAVER Dictionary -> intermediate/ advanced dictionary

Toggl Track -> time tracker, to keep a time balance between skills

italki -> booking classes

I also can't recommend Natalia's video enough. Mainly, I use those apps because she highlighted them.

A picture from my teaching notebook, I tried to make it look okay. The new students on my class are nice kids, although teenagers love to tease.

I forgot to post yesterday, but I worked from home, listened to two episodes of the "Little Talk in Slow French" podcast and prepared class for today's morning. It's raining a lot these days due to the high temperatures and, honestly, I love the freshness rains bring, although I don't like when it catches me getting out of work.

Day 9: What is the biggest struggle of learning a language according to you?

Knowing where to start from and where to go.

Day 10: How do you enrich your vocabulary?

Duolingo and videos.
