Was watching a UK reaction channel watching Zootopia and got reminded of the bizarre naming conventions Germany has for movies.
And I was specifically reminded of pirates of the caribbean.
The first movie is just called "Fluch der Karibik" - Curse of the caribbean.
Then starting from the second they changed it to
"Pirates of the caribbean - Fluch der Karibik 2" Like ???? Why did they add the english title to it and then the old german one with a 2??
They then kept the English prefix and started adding german versions of the actual names. So the third is "Pirates of the caribbean - Am Ende der Welt" (at the end of the world) and so on.
The thing tho? No one calls it pirates of the caribbean. It's just called Fluch der Karibik. So even tho they changed the title you'd just say Fluch der Karibik 3 or Fluch der Karibik: Am Ende der Welt. It makes no sense to me that they changed it to the English title after the german one was already so well established...
Anyways german movie titles are hilarious and I love figuring out what movie english speakers are talking about (especially the older ones where they still translated the titles into german)
