FALLOUT ⇢ 2x03 | THE PROFLIGATE
the thing about Macaulay Culkin as Lacerta Legate in the fallout show is that Culkin's performance is subdued, almost outright gentle, in such a weird and off-putting way. He says relatively little, relying a lot on gesture, and speaks very plainly and casually, not quite friendly but politely. He has a way of enunciating certain words that shows that even when he's trying to stress something important (like when he calls Lucy a profligate) he is almost constitutionally incapable of actually sounding intimidating or intense. He has a juvenile habit of smirking or being snide. And a lot of people are criticizing all of this, saying it's lame or that Macaulay Culkin is just playing himself or the character is a joke, but I couldn't disagree more. I love this. And one of the few things that I'm actually really interested in for the third season is that the face of the Legion in this show, now the leader of the Legion, is a mild-mannered and almost outright dorky man who is evidently terrible at public speaking or projecting his presence particularly well, and who could not possibly be more opposite to Caesar as portrayed by John Doman in the video game. Even Vulpes Inculta, who he is more similar to, is a lot more Hannibal Lecter compared to this guy's Norman Bates. The contrast could not be more stark, and especially with the Legion in such a scrappy and fallen state (being glorified LARPers even more than usual), is no one else obsessed with how they're going to be taking orders from this guy? Is no one else stoked to see what he does?
