Another week, another councilman reporting his attack. Tiernan Halloran accused villager halfling Arnon Ceanai of the crime due to his fae heritage and blatant distaste for the council and vampires. The trial against Arnon, who blindly awaited his fate in a holding cell, ended in a 6:4 majority guilty verdict. Instead of death as punishment, Mr. Halloran suggested something far worse ββ that Arnon be made a slave in the castle that the councilman would inevitably take for himself. Court is dismissed and Arnon is shipped up to Krovs Castle.
As the council disperses from town hall after settling everything, a mysterious cloaked figure brandishing a crossbow bursts into the courtroom and raises his weapon at one of the councilmen. Even masked, his rage and frustration is palpable through the yell as he pulls the trigger. There was no way the assassin was going to fail his mission that he'd come here for. He'd either succeed or die trying with the latter far more likely in a room full of experienced councilmen, guards, and police officers. The assassin is quickly taken down before he can harm anyone else and he laughs.
"This isn't over," he says as he draws his final breaths. "You'll pay for this, for all of what you've done..."
The council requests that the lifeless body is disposed of properly and then leave, feeling relieved that their lives were no longer in danger for the moment. There's a brief discussion of perhaps freeing Arnon from his slavery although it's agreed upon not to bother ββ the halfling still proved himself too reckless and rebellious to be trusted walking free. Slavery ought to break that spirit and remind the rest of Krovs that the council still held power over them.
