“Look at yourself and see the abomination.“
Many suffered during the war. The innocent, the weak were preyed on; tossed aside like dirt to settle down a conflict. Svein came from a small village. A little boy with certain abilities. He was adopted by a farmer couple, raised him like their own son. They knew that he wasn’t a human like them, that he was gifted, like the ones in their tales. Unlike kids his age, the earth listened to him. The flora and fauna bloomed on his presence and he was indeed unaccepted by those who realized he was different. As he got older, his powers grew stronger. Not only could he manipulate things, he could now also conjure things out of thin air.
The war started when he reached the age of nineteen. Their village was attacked by a group of vampires who feasted on blood. There was a resistance from humans but they were easily overpowered. Without much of a choice, he used his powers and helped to save his town. There were deaths, but a lot were still alive. The boy they once called a freak became a hero and everyone treated him well. For a time, things changed for the better. More people were kinder to them, more bought his parents’ goods and he began dreaming of having a life of his own. A few groups of vampires attacked their town again after that, but he managed to create a barrier that would repel them. They were safe.. For a time.
It took a year and the war intensified. More and more vampires were coming and there was news spreading out of a losing battle. The barrier was destroyed and the town was infiltrated. He was later captured by two old vampires. They tortured him close to death, until the boy was weak. On his final breath, he dreamed of a peaceful death but that dream became something else.
The morning after he woke up in the middle of the streets in an eerie quiet. No children laughing, no people walking around and talking he was drenched in blood. He felt lightheaded as he couldn’t remember how he got there. He ran to their farm calling for his Mama, but what he found was a horrific sight. His parents on the floor drained of their blood with tears in their eyes. He caught a reflection of himself, and the metallic taste of blood made him realize what he had done. He killed them.
Svein stopped aging as a vampire would, and stayed alive as decades passed. The event scarred him for life, and he resented the vampires who made him a monster, and more so himself. He looked at humans and others in envy, and envy became anger, and anger became hatred. He clung onto things to survive, on power, on money, on sex until he reached the top and became the Councilman of Norway. A personal crown for himself. Still despite of how far he had become, he was waiting, waiting for his chance of revenge.
