From Zoya’s character arc so far, two things that really stood up to me are how she, as a character, makes a clear distinction between being naïve and stupid, while also showing a distinction between being vulnerable and weak. The lock-up scenes, and the scene where she got rid of the tiger are my biggest evidence here. I personally thought her repeated dialogue to Aditya in today’s episode about how she may look stupid, but is actually not, was a very valid point. Bear with me here, because I know a lot of people seem to think that how could someone who was so easily fooled by someone like Mahi call herself not stupid. But that’s the whole point here. To be fooled by someone you need to trust that person. And Zoya is someone who easily trusts people, because she is pure at heart and thus always looks at the good in people. And as we could see from her reaction to Yash’s affair initially, when Zoya trusts someone, she trusts them blindly with no conditions. But this is not called being stupid; this is called being naïve. What’s the difference? The difference is that if she were stupid, she would’ve agreed with no hesitation when Aditya was coming up with the plan of fake marriage. But she didn’t, because she knew the consequences of what he was about to do, and the risks it held. The only reason she gave in was because, at that time, she was utterly helpless and had no way out. More importantly, if she were stupid, she would’ve never agreed to run away with Aditya when Rajveer was on their tail. It was a calculative step taken by Zoya, and as she confessed today, she didn’t decide to join hands with Aditya because he forced her to; instead, it was a decision she made at the time, because she felt like it was the right thing to do. So no, she may have been naïve at times, but never stupid.

Coming to the point of her being vulnerable but not weak, I fully agreed with Aditya when he said the same. He is right. Zoya is not weak. There have been many instances where we were shown Zoya breakdown. But not once has Zoya lost her faith and will to keep going. And ironically, my strongest piece of evidence for this comes from when she slit her wrist. As she fell to the ground, and heard Aditya’s voice in her head saying he will keep fighting, she suddenly didn’t want to die anymore. You could see her regret her actions in an instant. Despite slowly starting to lose her consciousness, she attempted to get up to unlock the door so Aditya could save her. Then, when she regained consciousness at the hospital, the first thing she said to Aditya was ‘thank you’. Because she didn’t want to die, and was glad that she was alive. It was only moment of weakness she showed. Had she been as weak as everyone assumes, she wouldn’t have felt glad that her attempt at suicide didn’t succeed, and would’ve even attempted again. Not just that, but it also takes courage to leave behind your family and go with the man you love, and had she been weak, she would’ve never been able to take such a step. It takes courage to come to a new, unknown city and try to survive there all on your own, and once again, had she been weak, she would’ve never held on for so long in Mumbai. And lastly, as Aditya reminded her today, had she been weak she would’ve never been able to fend off that tiger the way she did.

But yes, Zoya is vulnerable.She is vulnerable because she easily trusts people, and always believes in doing what’s right. She is vulnerable because she is naïve, and because she hasn’t seen how cruel life could be. This blends so well into AdiYa equation because Aditya understands this, and his personality complements this. This is where the difference between Yash and Aditya lies with regards to how they treat Zoya.
