but i feel like jaune arc is partially supposed to deconstruct gender roles. he starts the series with this chauvinist persona.

it's not him, of course, but he believes that this will make him seem stronger than he actually is. more appealing. more masculine. this is a toxic viewpoint, of course. and during the course of the series, he finds what makes him actually comfortable, and deconstructs these values.

he becomes the healer, the helping hand, and the main support of both rwby and jnpr. and this role is something that has been historically given to women.

but the roles have reversed. and the one who's actually going through the hero's journey, the real and true protagonist, is ruby, the girl. in other series she'd be forgotten, maybe even belittled and treated as an accessory. but the whole narrative is built upon her and her life. she is the foundation from which rwby works off of. she IS rwby, she is the purest embodiment of the series. she is the living, beating heart of rwby, while jaune's just her super hot and sexy but that's not really important friend.

you can say that: he exists to subvert typical shounen protagonists. he wants to become stronger, win the girl, and beat the big bad. but he hasn't really done any of these things.

he has one of the strongest semblances in the world, yes, but he doesn't use it for fighting, but to further support the people he loves. win the girl? you mean the girl who has become one of his closest friends? or are we talking about the girl who has died, and doesn't really belong to anyone anymore?

and the big bad? cinder? i feel like that's not something he will do, or at least, something he won't do alone.

jaune is a lot more than i feel like a lot people see at first glance, and it's why i enjoy drawing him feminine because, wow! that's a lot to take in. i feel like being trans and having to think about gender in general puts jaune's struggle with the masculine and the feminine into a different light.
