If you want to see a baby Brie Larson before she became a superhero, watch The United States of Tara. She plays the daughter of Toni Collette's character, Tara. Tara has dissociative identity disorder (formerly known as multiple personality disorder). Toni Collette is fucking amazing in this show and I highly recommend you watch it even though it was prematurely cancelled. You can stream it on Hulu. 

#JackedKirby - World Of Fantasy... Kirby Style!!! 💥💥💥 Before the important anthology books of Marvel like Tales to Astonish, Tales of Suspense and Amazing Fantasy could give us our beloved Marvel superheroes of the 60s there was another anthology book.... this one was published by Atlas (the precursor to Marvel in name) and was called World of Fantasy. It ran 18 issues from 1956-1959 and featured many of the greatest penciling talents of the industry... Bill Everett, Don Heck, Ross Andru, Gene Colan, Dick Ayers, Joe Sinnott, Steve Ditko... and of course King Kirby! 💥💥💥 Kirby had just returned to Atlas after leaving over a debacle over the rights to Captain America and working at National Comics & Mainline comics... and he was just in time to immediately get to work in World of Fantasy! 💥💥💥 Jack did the pencils on the covers for #Issue16 (April of 1959) #Issue17 (June of 1959) and #Issue18 (August of 1959) featured in pics 1/2/3 of this post. #JackedKirby - Redrum at The X-Mansion!!! ❌❌❌ Sometimes you gotta wonder WHY certain covers or pages end up with the color scheme they do. There are interesting choices that litter the annals of Comic History, but one that always stood out to me was the blood red hue of X-Men #Issue17 published in February of 1966! ❌❌❌ After a sick battle with the Sentinels many of the X team need medical assistance and are hospitalized while a few other members recuperate at the X-Mansion. Seeing an opportunity, Magneto disguised himself and attacks Professor X and Cyclops, taking them out... ❌❌❌ When Beast and Jean return from the hospital, Magneto dispatches then too. Angel can’t be contacted and Iceman is still in the hospital... it seems as if he has finally done it... Magneto has BEATEN THE X-MEN!!! ❌❌❌ Even though Jack was only handling layouts on the book at this time, turning over pencil duties to Werner Roth, he was still doing the covers... and this is a doozy. The battle scarred and crumble mass of bodies is a perfect opportunity to wash in a full color cover, and red is appropriate considering the carnage they just faced from the Sentinels and will soon see from their nemesis Magneto! #JackedKirby - Introducing... The Wrecker!!!! 💥💥💥 While doing some research for an upcoming Ep of the Jacked Kirby podcast I found out something I did not really know for sure: It turns out The Wrecker came along almost a decade before his teammates in The Wrecking Crew (Bulldozer, Piledriver and ThunderBall). 💥💥💥 The Wrecker first appears in Thor #Issue148 (January of 1968) and his counterparts wouldn’t appear until they were created by Len Wein & Sal Buscema in Defenders #Issue17 (1974). But The Wrecker came to us as an adversary for The Might Thor... and he gets his powers through a case of mistaken identity!!! Asgardian witchcraft, Gods losing their powers... even a visit from the Goddess of Death Hela... this storyline (issues 148-150) has it All!!! 💥💥💥 I included the original inked cover (pic 1) and the original colored cover (pic 2), but one of the cool things present on this original art is the margin notes to both Vinny Colletta (inker) and the coloring staff (pic 3 closeups). The more original art I see, the more I notice these margin notes from artists instructing the other contributors (writers, inkers, colorists) on certain aspects of the product... further evidence that in the famous “Marvel Method” since the artist drew the whole issue FIRST before anyone did their job, they were the ones driving the direction of the narrative. But that’s just my (Mike D) opinion... what do I know! We will finally be able to stream Black Earth Rising on Netflix on January 25! It premiered ages ago on BBC Two in the UK and I've been dying to watch it. Michaela Coel stars as a London investigator involved in the prosecution of war criminals in her native Rwanda.
