#JackedKirby - Redrum at The X-Mansion!!! ❌❌❌ Sometimes you gotta wonder WHY certain covers or pages end up with the color scheme they do. There are interesting choices that litter the annals of Comic History, but one that always stood out to me was the blood red hue of X-Men #Issue17 published in February of 1966! ❌❌❌ After a sick battle with the Sentinels many of the X team need medical assistance and are hospitalized while a few other members recuperate at the X-Mansion. Seeing an opportunity, Magneto disguised himself and attacks Professor X and Cyclops, taking them out... ❌❌❌ When Beast and Jean return from the hospital, Magneto dispatches then too. Angel can’t be contacted and Iceman is still in the hospital... it seems as if he has finally done it... Magneto has BEATEN THE X-MEN!!! ❌❌❌ Even though Jack was only handling layouts on the book at this time, turning over pencil duties to Werner Roth, he was still doing the covers... and this is a doozy. The battle scarred and crumble mass of bodies is a perfect opportunity to wash in a full color cover, and red is appropriate considering the carnage they just faced from the Sentinels and will soon see from their nemesis Magneto!
