Who taught you to fear death? What is the point in fearing the only certainty in life? The perspectives on what death is differs amongst communities and knowledge systems. For a majority of us we have been socialised to believe death to be an end - we lose a loved one or acquaintance forever simply because we cannot experience them in the physical vessel anymore. Indigenous systems understand our 'true self' is not of the body, which is just the vessel that carries the spirit within. That spirit is pure energy - intelligent energy hence why it also has a consciousness, which we largely cal our minds. Death as such is a continuum of experience, not an end in itself. That energy does not require a body for it be experienced or interacted with.
