Aside from the easily gunked up scroll nipple I think this is the most comfy and nice looking mouse Apple has ever made and I like how they finally made it have multiple button input functionality at the time!
IDK if this mouse looks as good but at least it has the same basic ergonomics and the scroll wheel doesn't gunk up and stop working
some sort of “palm pilot” tablet for your PC?!? in case you want use a weirdo wacked out gylph system Everywhere you Compute. 😒
an interesting thing I’ve noticed since getting a trackball is that I use the mouse MORE now.
The trackball is much less accurate than a normal mouse but it can sit right up next to my keyboard, usually just under the arrow-keys, and it’s ~always~ there rather than just getting left wherever it was last like a mouse is.
The lower accuracy means I pretty much only use it for selecting windows and doing coarse text editing in rich text windows, I still use vim and vim commands for text editing, and I have added Qutebrowser to my already keyboardy Firefox+Vimium browser repertoire.
I also like having the big paddle-style click buttons rather than the smaller ones of a mouse, I find that I now break up the “move” and “click“ parts of what would usually be one movement: moving the trackball over and then just whacking the general side of the trackball with the side of my hand.
If you don’t use your mouse a lot anyway and you think that it takes up too much space on your desk, I think a trackball might be exactly what you need.
One immediately obvious downside is that you need to clean it out frequently, dust and gunk builds up on the rollers pretty fast, not that it’s hard to empty out, but it affects the handling pretty severely if you let it get bad. The low accuracy also means it’s almost useless for shooters. I started a Half Life 2 run the other day and I just could not land shots as reliably as I can usually do with even a basic mouse, even after switching the xinput rules to disable acceleration.
