Inch'allah (2013) trailer
i just remembered this movie i saw back in like 2016-17, thinking about how it was the reason i even knew what "inshallah" meant - its been uttered much more as the Israel & Palestine conflict has festered...
I was so stricken looking back on this.
I knew at the time it was a sad war movie, but revisiting it now made it so obvious i didnt have the deeper understanding, or perhaps maturity, to REALLY understand it at the time. This is from over a decade ago and they were still specifically blowing up hospitals & killing children...its always been right in the open.
every moment of this being recontextualized for me was so bizarre & kind of jarring...why was i able to see that movie, know nothing about the war, then still go on knowing nothing & absorbing nothing after? ive always been interested in history & academics. But still i sit amazed.
Its yet another piece thats been making me realize how much has been filtered right past me over the years...these cultural references to the war that people have been posting, plus my recollection of this movie, has just really made me confront the sheer volume of things i missed.

GRE Literature in English subject test on 19th-century British literature: choices are Keats, Shelley, Coleridge, and Wordsworth so you gain absolutely nothing from knowing it’s a Romantic poet, let alone a British poet
GRE Literature in English subject test on “world” literature: choices clearly have names that point to completely different languages & ethnicities so you can guess the answer based on nothing but knowing what Spanish or Hindi names look like

Ramadan Mubarak 🌙🩵
Bismillah Rahman Raheem.
InchAllah may this month be filled with peace and opportunities to hold fast on to His rope. I hope it is filled with prayers, with nights full of worships. I hope it heals something in you, I hope it uses ashes of past hurt to grow a garden of blooms. I hope it acts as a spring to all your successes.
I hope you thrive: mind, body and soul. I hope you feel serene and secure. I hope you achieve all your goals, that you hold on to the promises you made yourself. I hope you get out of this month the best version of yourself you’ve ever been.
I hope you pray more than you ever have, eat better than you ever did and workout harder than you ever thought you could. I hope you nights and early mornings flow with endeavours that fill you to the brim.
I hope you spend more time with loved ones than ever. I hope you laugh with tears and get adorned with warm embraces. I hope you feel connected to your ummah, to your sisterhood/brotherhood; that you feel included, loved, valued, respected, part of a thriving and vibrant community.
More than anything, I hope you feel closer to your Creator, closer than you ever thought it possible. That it soothes and empowers you beyond imagination and words. That you feel His love throbbing in your jugular vein.
I hope this Ramadan brings a light within you that’ll guide your path to the next Ramadan and beyond, that you change your life for this Ramadan and all the ones after that.
InchAllah all the love, peace, faith, success and family moments. May this blessed month see us at our best this year and for years to come. May we be granted dozens of Ramadan with our loved ones.
And may all your good deeds be accepted, be multiplied and open Jannah’s doors so you can dwell in His promised paradise for eternity with all your loved ones.
Al hamdoulilah Rabi 3alamine
Ameen 🤲🏼
