@hellcheerweek day 3: Modern AU prompt
Chrissy Cunningham has the perfect life. A handsome successful fiance', a big beautiful apartment in an exclusive building, and many friends to share her life with. On top of that she just knows she’s going to kill her upcoming presentation and get that big promotion at work.
Then it all falls apart.Â
It starts with her handsome fiance stealing her idea and the big promotion. No one believes her when she tells them what Jason did, instead they side with him. Now she has to move into a small apartment with the only two friends she has left, Barb and Nancy.
She supposes she should be relieved that she's not fired from Hawkins Inc no instead she’s banished to the dungeons. Well the basement actually.
Hellfire Games is a small board game and rpg company started by the Byers-Hopper family and bought out by Hawkins Inc. almost a year ago. Since then they have had seven corporate managers. And Chrissy was about to be lucky number eight.Â
The small company has garnered quite a reputation for being chalk full of freaks, the biggest of which being their head of story and development Eddie Munson. Every previous manager had described him as mean and scary. As the elevator went down into the depths of the building she tried steel herself.Â
Eddie knew better, he really did. Joyce, Hopper and the rest of the Hellfire crew had explained to him over and over again why they had to work with corporate stooges. And yeah the buyout allowed them to get brand new equipment and really bring their games up in quality, but he still wasnt sure if it was worth all the the forced conformity.Â
He was actually proud of himself when the last corporate monkey, Andy something or other, literally fled their offices after he suggested a game that simulated a satanic ritual. He was only kidding, well mostly anyway.Â
Now though they were back at day one with some new guy. That was always the worst because they always seemed to have this arrogance about them like they would be the ones to finally get the freaks in order. Yeah right, not on his watch.
The morning the new manager is supposed to start he purposely shows up late. Showing up in the middle of their welcome speech tended to throw them off their game. Instead though he's the one totally caught off guard when he walks in to see the cute little blonde with a plastic smile and tired eyes.Â
He tries to kick away the urge to make a fool of himself in an attempt to get a real smile out of her. So insteads he over compensates and acts like an even bigger jerk than usual.Â
And so it goes for the next couple of weeks. The two butting heads much to the chagrin of their coworkers. Eddie refuses to listen to any of her ideas even though a lot of them are pretty good. In return Chrissy ignores the skill and passion he gives when putting a new game together.Â
It's not until they go out for after work drinks one Friday that they finally end up calling a truce. Drink after drink their defenses fall down. One by one the others leave for the night until they're the only two left.Â
When Eddie offers to walk Chrissy home neither expects anything, but as Chrissy leans in to hug him goodbye he moves the wrong way and suddenly they're face to face and looking into eachothers eyes.Â
Neither knows who makes the first move but somehow their lips end up crashing together. And just like that the weeks worth of sexual tension comes to a head…
