But maybe it’s something he needs.

When Tony found out you were his daughter about three years ago- he was hesitant. He had no idea how to be a dad, never-mind a good one..but after multiple long conversations with pepper and a movie night, he realises: it isn’t as hard as he thought it was.

Warnings: reader is 18-19 in this!!, swearing, light drinking, reader is called ‘kid’ by Tony, a mention of readers mom abandoning her, mention of a one night stand, mentions of fighting, pepper is like a mom to reader, found family.

You found yourself at stark tower about two years ago. You were the biggest scandal in New York. Within a week the big apple knew everything about you, two weeks and Tony had people in London asking about you and whether you’d like to be on the front cover of one of their newest magazine- ‘celebrating new celebrities’ or not.

You still remember some of the headlines and quotes from most of the stories-

Tony stark has a daughter?! Who knew! Is she going to go on to help with the company? Is she as smart as him? Has she got the same ego or is that where the resemblance stops?! Will she be a hero too?!

…you were 15 at the time. You had no interest in being a hero - and you still don’t. You’ve been trying to…“connect” with the one they call iron man for a couple of months, but it’s slightly harder than you thought it would be.

Your mother left you nothing but a note to read when you came back from school, explaining who your father was and how she couldn’t stand to ‘deal’ with you anymore…it left you heartbroken and..a lot of trust issues if your being honest.

You went to the infamous billionaire with hopes of simply getting somewhere to stay- maybe an apartment you could lay low in or something..his girlfriend, pepper, she had other plans.

She insisted on taking you in. (After many, many- many DNA tests and examinations done by Bruce of course- to make sure you were who you said you were.) she made sure you had your own room and your own privacy and encouraged Tony to talk to you as much as he could..it’s safe to say you became closer to her quicker than you did your so called “dad.” You found yourself wondering often what exactly she saw in him…

It’s sad- and kinda rude -but true that Tony barely even tried with you to begin with. You were just this kid that showed up at his doorstep- at one of the worst times in his life. He was going through a lot already- then one of his hookups from when he was younger decided to dump you on him? Nu-uh.

Nick Fury had SHIELD agents search for months for your mom..but she was gone. It was as if she had disappeared, she had gone totally off-grid. Which left you with a strange, empty, feeling inside that you just couldn’t shake..had she hated you so much? Did something happen to her?

It took two lectures from pepper and a serious reminder from Rhodes about how Stark needs to step in…and that was all it took. (Aswell as two shots for confidence- something he lacked in the moment.)

He had a “heart to heart” with you- an awkward one but a heart to heart nonetheless. From there, it became obvious he tried. Taking you into his and showing you some of his stuff- letting you choose what he cooks and makes ect..

Pep always supported the two of you and you often made her chuckle with how similar the two of you are. You’d wake up around the same time, eat the same things- like the same music and interests..

Tony got…used to you. Eventually. That does not mean he’s going soft on you, though! Definitely not!

Tonight is the three year anniversary of you winding up at the tower and finding them. You’ve met the avengers- and they’ve become your family almost as much as your new guardians parents have.

You’ve even run into a certain….intern of your fathers. A very nerdy, handsome- smart intern that’s been working with him for a couple of weeks now. A boy who stumbles and stutters over his words whenever he sees you and goes red when you smile at him. The same boy your dads had a ttiiinnyyyy grudge against since he first saw how he acted around you.

Your life is…1000x better than what it was when you lived with your mom. You’ve never been happier- you smile everyday, you live with your billionaire father in New York, you get to train with the motherfucking avengers and you have the cutest guy crushing on you. Sometimes, life feels like a movie for you..despite everything that’s happened.

Now, sat on the couch with pepper, the two of you are giggling and talking to yourselves- huge smiles on your faces. You have matching pyjamas on, snacks on the coffee table in front of you both- a fluffy blanket over the two of you with a couple of soda cans on the floor- two beers put to the side for Tony, who’s waiting for the popcorn to pop in the microwave as he watches you both from the kitchen.

Tony’s had his own problems for awhile now. He lost his parents when he was around your age, he had to take on an entire company by himself- he had to fight and kill one of the only people that he thought he could trust. He almost died from the one thing keeping him alive. Hell, he fell from a hole in space a couple of years ago fighting gods from a whole other planet He has anxiety, PTSD- the list goes on..

But taking on you? Was one of the scariest things he’s ever done.

He doubted himself heavily when it first came to you. His own father barely spoke to him- he had no idea how to raise or take care of a kid..nevermind a moody, stuck-up teen..his view of you changed quickly after your little heart to heart..and he hated to admit it, but he saw more of himself in you than he liked to admit.

Yes- you had the occasional argument. There have been a couple where you’ve left the tower and not come back for hours, he’s even had to ground you once or twice..

But watching you now- so at peace and relaxed with the woman he loved?..it was a sight he never thought he’d get to see. But he loves it..so, so much. Not that he’d ever admit it though.

He grabs the packet and quickly puts the popcorn into a bowl before walking towards the couch. “What is it tonight kid, Bad boys? Top gun?” He puts himself next to pepper, pulling the blanket over him. “It better not be top gun.”

“Not again, no.” You grin as you reach over and throw some popcorn into your mouth- pressing start on the movie. “Close. Rush hour.” He rolls his eyes. “Again? We watched that like- last week.”

“It’s a good movie!” You defend as you open a can, taking a big sip from it.

“You sure you don’t know all the words off by heart by now?” Pepper asks next to you, taking a small sip of her own beer.

“That’s besides the point.” You grin-

Tony watches as the two of you banter- his head moving to rest on the back of the couch..and he realises just where he is right now.

At home, on the couch- watching a movie with his kid and future wife…not taking down a HYDRA base or flying around in his suit or talking to Jarvis about which enemies need to be taken out first. It’s new to him. Strange, almost…but he revels in the comfort it brings him.

He could scream at how happy he is in this very moment- because now? All he wants is for the two things he loves most in the world to be safe and that is pepper and that is (now) you.

If the Tony from 10 years ago could see him now he doesn’t know if he’d he proud, surprised or disappointed. Maybe a mix of all three? A part of him- a very selfish part of him is happy Nick didn’t find your mother when he begged him to send agents out to find her. Because then he wouldn’t have what he has now.
