Does anyone agree that there should be a way of posting GIFs on tumblr so that they appear in the actual post, but don't actually start playing unless you press play (eg a button in the middle of the image)?
Because people with motion sensitivity, hypersensitivities, motion sickness, motion dizziness, epilepsy (and all sorts of other conditions I would imagine) could have their symptons made instantly worse by GIFS automatically playing as you scroll down your dash. I am living testimony to this and I know many people with my condition have the same problem, as well as inevitably many others with relevant other conditions. But at the same time people with these conditions (I am one of them) may be able to tolerate occasional GIFs depending on how bad they're feeling, or may be able to watch GIFs as long as not too many etc. And so people in this group of conditions don't want to be excluded from the enjoyment of GIFs but would benefit from an accessibility setting that allows this to be more controlled. It would be much better if Tumblr included optional accessibility settings to be configured on each individual user's dash/settings. Which could include the option to either block GIFs and/or auto video clips. And another option being - most important - to turn off all auto-play settings. But instead allow the user to see the GIF in the post but for it to be static until the user presses 'play' (so if they can't watch it because of their condition at that time then they won't be made ill by it and can just scroll past without the motion making them ill as they go past. But if they are well enough then they can watch it at the best moment which involves being prepared). I think personally it would be far more inclusive if tumblr had accessibility settings, and this should include the above mentioned optional setting (obviously people who don't need this setting would just not select these options so the gif would still autoplay for them as normal so it wouldn't interfere with normal use). If you agree with this - even if you're not personally affected by it but believe in accessibility accommodations for disabilities - please reblog, so that we can influence some positive action from tumblr!!
