Now that I am a working adult with steady income (versus a broke college student), I’ve been putting more thought into bettering myself, or trying to “glow up.”
Background: I am that girl who just dresses for comfort. I was never one to labelled as a fashionista, or a trendsetter. My usual outfit is pretty much a pair of jeans, a nice blouse, and my allbirds (BTW, I LOVE allbirds aka “the world’s most comfortable shoes). I also didn’t really do much in terms of skincare, either. I used Cetaphil’s Gentle Cleanser in the morning & night, occasionally exfoliated and moisturized, and that was pretty much it. I do have sensitive skin and struggled with acne in the past, but this routine worked for me, more or less.
Well, now I’m consciously trying to better myself.
I’ll walk y’all through my ongoing process.
Invest in quality skincare products and set up a regular skincare routine. I recently came back from South Korea AKA skincare central, and bought a load of skincare products. Now I’m definitely no skincare guru but I’ve been reading online and figuring out how to better my skin. Basically, I have 3 steps - I use a cleanser, a toner, and a moisturizer in my morning & night routine. Currently I’m using green tea products bought from innisfree & I cant tell if it’s placebo effect but I feel like my skin’s getting more even and less splotchy! I also use face masks twice a week (any more will dry out your skin). I know consistency is key, so I can’t wait to see my results one month in, one year in, etc. BTW, even males need good skincare routines.
Buy clothes that fit your body shape and make you feel confident! I’ve found myself getting bored of my wardrobe and constantly feeling like I had nothing to wear... aka I was tired of my current clothes and needed to buy a few more items. I bought dresses, jeans, and tops. Splurge a little, right? Well, not really. I only shop when there’s a sale & at the same time, I’m shifting towards buying quality items (quality over quantity). I bought cute dresses from Target from $15-$25 (surprisingly very good quality too), jeans for $15 at Old Navy, and tops from $15-$25 from Ann Taylor’s The LOFT. I have a couple more items on my clothes list I’d like to buy, including a pair of low-heeled flats & a few more blouses I can wear to work. I no longer shop at stores like Forever21, which I feel like has cheap quality.
Get your eyebrows threaded. Ok, ok this sounds very vain but I’m serious - eyebrows frame your face and can make a face look so naturally great when done right! Even guys get their brows threaded; they just ask for a natural look. It costs $10 and gives your face a simple, effortless glow.
Exercise. Alright, I’m still trying to get this done. I feel like I got a new wardrobe, my skin’s great... what else do I gotta do? Focus on body fitness! Which also can make you look wham-bam amazing. I just lack motivation...
Tldr; glow up by getting a good skincare routine down so your skin can literally be glowing and healthy, getting clothes that flatter your body shape and make you feel confident (if you’re confident on the inside, it’ll show on the outside!), thread your brows (only $10 and can make a big difference!), and exercise for for both your health & for that slammin’ bod.
