Dorothe messed up her first Magic qualifying exam because she had an anxiety attack. She has another chance, but it'll be her last chance. She accidentally creates a skull named Anne, and well, that’s just the start of the goings on. Anne the skull narrates Dorothe’s inner thoughts (good, bad, or embarrassing, doesn’t matter). Except, then, Anne reveals to Dorothe (and her new helper James, a fellow mage student) that students who try and get disability accommodations are disappearing. And the Admin doesn’t seem to care. So, they’re on the case, trying to find the missing students and find out what’s going on.

I really liked Anne, and, Dorothe was an interesting character too (which, if I think about it, is sorta ironic since Anne actually is sorta Dorothe… whoops…). It was a fun read. Not super high fantasy, but, more of a cozy mystery sort of fantasy.

The First is standard fantasy adventure stuff, a bunch of young peasants, home-town burned down, on the run, on an adventure, group of friends, maybe a mentor, additional rules for setting up an antagonist that sort of thing, what to do if you find a cursed artifact in your hands, plenty of magic, but nothing too powerful

The second is about what comes after, running the mercenary company the dodgy kid got involved with, running the kingdom the protagonist you've found yourself running, building that wizards tower, has all the organisations and war rules, bigger magic

the Third book I'm not sure about could be about dragging the gods from their thrones and cracking their bones for that sweet sweet divine marrow (or other such metaphysical adventures), it could be about becoming (and playing) that villain from the first tier, maybe that's the same thing, has the big magic
