Spider-Man. Check. Noir. Check. The art. Holy moley big ole check.

This is Spider-Man set in 1939, with Spidey wearing a fedora and fighting Nazis as well as the big bad killer he needs to find.

It was more international than the usual Spider-Man comic. That was cool. And, I will say, read this one in print if you can. A screen is fine, but I think that reading this one on a screen just doesn’t do the art (or the double page spreads) the justice it deserves. No matter how you read it though, definitely read it.

This was sorta like Stargate (ah, not the storylines of course, but, how it happened). Like Stargate there was a movie first (which I've recommended as well), but, then, they went somewhat back to the drawing board and came up with the TV series that was quite like the original movie, but also different too. (It also happens to have something else in common with Stargate SG-1, they both went or are going on for quite a few seasons, and have had spin offs).

It’s again the story of Elizabeth Thatcher, but, this time it’s way more about her (and not her Aunt as well). She still goes to Coal Valley, and, some of the scenes in the first few episodes are even the same sorta scenes that there were in the movie. There are also some of the same actors and actresses that were in the original movie too. And, then a few episodes into the show, you can definitely tell the difference in tone between the movie and show. I think partially because it is a TV show, the storylines get more complicated, and we get to know much, much more about all the characters.

The first few seasons especially, are most definitely worth watching. If you’re looking for a Little House on the Prairie sort of feeling of a show (there is a remake of that coming soon, or possibly already arrived too), this is the show for you. There are a lot of seasons at this point, some better than others. And, it’s usually pretty low stakes, especially in the first few seasons. A comfort watch.

Jieun has powers that she doesn’t totally get. And, as a kid, she sorta kinda made her family to vanish. She’s going to find them. And, towards that, one night she creates the Marigold Mind Laundry. It’s not your ordinary laundry though. It will help you remove the deepest pain in your heart. She listens to her customers and transfers their sadness to t-shirts as stains. Then, putting them into the washing machine, the stains turn into floating flower petals and, people are relieved of their burdens.

It was a gentle book. Apparently it’s a new sort of book, so called ‘healing novels’ that take the supernatural to deal with and guide people through grief, self-doubt, etc. I’m not sure that I’ve ever read a book entirely like it before. While high fantasy or urban fantasies are fun to read, this was a nice change. A bit of gentle fantasy.

Insects can be really icky (too many legs, too many legs, too many legs) or really really cool (Bees for the win, not wasps or hornets, but, Bees!!) and of course all those insects between ew and aw. Peter Kuper’s graphic novel about them is both beautiful (awesome art), and it is also just insanely jam packed with scientific information about all sorts of insects. Also, yeesh, I like dragon flies a lot, but, humongous dragon flies? Seriously? Whew… such a fun non-fiction graphic novel.

Fletcher is the executive assistant to the CEO of Cartwright Media. She works a lot of hours for said CEO, and she finally gets to go on the corporate retreat, and finds the CEO dead. Ooh, ooh, and it gets better, because, the last will and testament says that whoever survives the week retreat will inherit the company. Oh, and, did I mention that there are not only the other humans (who are now gunning for each other), but, also, wild animals? Fletcher sorta kinda teams up with the CEO’s son, Waylon, and she's pretty sure that he won’t be one of the ones trying to get her out of the way. Hopefully…

It most definitely lives up to its title (which almost had me not reading the book. I’m glad that I didn’t judge it by the funny title though). It was definitely thrilling, with a few places as the reader to catch your breath. It had a little romance too which dovetailed nicely. And, it was just a wicked dark, whacky, fun read.

So, even though this isn't about a British Bake Off, it is the second in this series that stars Shauna, who solves crimes, and, in this one, sorta wrecks a boat. Then she needs a summer job. And she gets caught up in some hardcore quilting drama between two shop owners.

It was hilarious like the first one even though there was very little baking at all in it, and totally different, oh, and, even somewhat crazier and zanier. Yikes Shauna, yikes. Like Midsomer Murders on uppers. Yeesh. (But a good yeesh… heh…)

Matilda, BFG, James and the Giant Peach, and of course, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. So many books that are so beloved by all ages of children and adults, but, who was he?

This podcast gives a lot of those answers. They’re not always happy answers, and sometimes they’re totally out there answers too (did you know that he was a spy, I didn’t, yeesh…) I did not anticipate this podcast to be as twisty and turney as any of my mysteries or thrillers, but that it is. A really interesting listen that is sometimes fun and sometimes, honestly, sorta a bummer (to say that he was a complicated man is a super, super understatement).

This is a really cool story about found family, but, with, ah, dragon training thrown in there too. Garrodigh is a newly three headed dragon (used to be four). He sneaks into a dragon rider academy (he pretends to be tame) so that he can heal. Instead, he finds Raina, who is desperate for a dragon to ride. Can they save the academy and also their city from the people who also took Garrodigh’s fourth head?

The world building was awesome, and, the characters were so much fun, and then, there were the three heads of Garrodigh. That was just… the differences between Centerhead, Bottomhead, and Upperhead, it was all just so much fun. It was an amazing read.
