From The Chainsawgal Archivesβ¦
August 8, 1973 (Wednesday), the high temp was 94 Β°F the day we shot dpearldpβs famous dolly-shot of Pamβs approach to the house.
Meanwhile, Did You Know that 150 miles south of Quick Hill, located outside Austin, TX, 'police in Houston, Texas, learned for the first time of the murders committed by serial killer Dean Corll, after Corll's accomplice, Elmer Wayne Henley, called Houston Police and told them that he had shot and killed Corll?' True!
It looks like we were beginning to shoot our van scenes here. BTW, it was Tedβs van.
The weather bureau reports that the high temp for that day, Thursday, in Austin, TX was 96 Β°F. Remember, in order to cut out road noise from Ted Nicolaouβs sound recording, the van windows were closed tight. Eight of us packed inside, Sally, Pam, Kirk, Jerry, and Franklin, crew, Daniel, Ted, and Tobe. Each time we stopped and they opened the doors, we all piled out lickety-split! BREATHE!!! Then, back inside for more takes. As I recall, we shot the interior van scenes for 3.5 days. If anyone has more accurate information, speak now!
Anyway, Iβm not completely sure, and may be tellin' a whopper (lyinβ), cuz there I am on pic 4 inside the van holding the clapperboard that says 8/27, if I'm reading it right. π§
Oh, well, whenever, whatever, guess what happened with that little movie we all sweated for 50 years ago, that one? It's been named by @Variety as the Number One Horror Film of all time.π Weβre all smiling today, and we thank You, our loving, loyal Chainsaw fans. β₯οΈπͺ
