"My Ma and Mi would never tolerate any of me or my siblings acting the way you do." Green takes another bite. "They raised us with manners and unconditional love. So it must be in your upbringing."

"I'll have you know," Purple shoves their paper plate away; it's personal now. "I was raised by my very dedicated and hardworking single parent who taught me the value of standing up for myself, independence, and being honest."

"So you were emotionally neglected."

"I wasn't raised to be a bootlicking, asskissing doormat like some people I know."

"Basic Crewmate decency isn't submission, Purps." Green nibbles at their crust like a Tootsie roll. "If being polite and courteous to others feel like losing, you miiiiiight have have some issues to work out."

"I was raised FINE." Their palm strikes the table. A salt shaker topples on its side. "Sure, maybe my Mi wasn't around as much, but it was because they were working hard to support BOTH of us. It's not fair to expect them to baby their kid when they have fourteen-hour shifts back-to-back."

"You mean you." Green dodges the salt and shakes a bit of pepper on their pizza crust nub. "Because their kid was you."

"I WASN'T EMOTIONALLY NEGLECTED. ALL MY NEEDS WERE MET."

"Prove it, then." Green puts their elbow on the table, chin in palm. There's semolina flour on their fingers, sticking to their annoyingly round cheek. the good stuff because Yellow and Brown won't settle for anything less. Union rights. "Prove you can be affectionate, like any well-adjusted, non-neglected person."

Purple grabs them by the collar of their hoodie.

Affection. Affection. Affection because of feeeeeeeeliiiiiings. Feelings that Purple definitely has and processes well and does not externalize through random bursts of violence because their parent raised them properly and well.

Things like… hugging. And talking. Which Purple can definitely do.

Their thumb brushes the curve of Green's neck, between their jacket and their undershirt, between their shoulder and their neck. The pulse jumps thickly.

Purple drags them in, and kisses them. Right on the nose.

"There! HA! CHECKMATE." Purple stumbles over the lunch table seat, up to their feet, oh, what's that, did they get new… tape for the fire extinguisher? It's nice tape. Nice, sturdy tape. They're not hungry anymore! They don't need pizza! They can get dinner or breakfast or maybe lunch three days from now, eating is overrated!

Green doesn't follow, their last bite of crust dropped in the salt.
