Ugh I had these two on my mind, Bluerunner and Magnific are a pair that get me. They get me so bad ya'll.

"Like Real People Do" by Hozier was on repeat, the song has vibes, sad sweet vibes. Y'know because these two don't actually really get together in canon?? They don't get enough time, but I love them all the same.

Blue (the blue one heh..) isnt mine! He belongs to @quibble-auk who was kind enough to let me throw my love sick oc at him. Magni is a darling romantic, I do adore her.

Anon! I get around 40 to 50 asks a day nowadays. I am only one person and this is not my job. I have no choice but to pick and choose asks to answer and I’m sure as h*ll not going to cater to Jkkrs with their ‘theories’.

So I am super excited for Sulu’s week of Trek Fest 2017 and I know Uhura’s is next, and I will have a fic for her, I have been thinking a lot about writing Sulu, as I have never, ever, written him before.  I think he’s the only one I’ve never written before (what a travesty).

So I thought I would do a little character study to test the waters and see if my Sulu characterization was right.  

Enjoy. 

-When I think about writing Sulu, my first thought is this calm, collected, stoic sort of man who can bring down the tension in a room simply by being in it.  

-He’s not a chatty type.  When he speaks it’s deliberate and to move the conversation further, not really a “small talk” kinda guy. 

-He much prefers deep and meaningful conversations because he wants to get to know you, not just chat about the weather.

-So he loathes going to clubs (unless already heavily intoxicated), and much prefers bars or restaurants so he can actually talk to people and enjoy the music.  He is one of those people that is happy to sit at the table and watch the things going on around him, the dancing, the failed attempts at flirting, the bartender’s swift movements behind the bar.  But rarely does he get involved in the action. 

-He comes off as pleasant and kind, and people open up to him quickly, asking his advice very often, and he gives it freely, but doesn’t jump in and tell his own stories.

-He is a very personal person.  People are constantly surprised that, even if they have known him for a very long time, they still learn new things about him (ex. the crew not knowing he has a husband and a daughter, and his stone cold fury towards Khan that surprised Bones). He likes to keep the mystery, only sharing more personal things once he gets to know and trust a person. 

-It takes a lot for him to trust someone.  A lot.  

-He is a very independent person, so is happy to be on his own and do his own thing, and if others want to jump in and come along for the ride, then so be it. But they have to put in the effort and time, as Sulu is not one to stand for one-sided relationships. 

-For Sulu to trust you, you must have proven yourself many, many times, because he’s been burned a lot by giving second chances, and once that trust is lost, it’s nearly impossible to regain it.  

-This makes it really difficult for him to have long-term relationships, because people just assume that he trusts them, so they might go out and unknowingly do something that shows they are untrustworthy, and they will be met with a cold-shouldered Sulu, and not even know what they did wrong. 

-But as I said before, he is generally a happy and kind person, approachable and intelligent, and willing to give anyone a chance.  

-If there is anything Hikaru isn’t, it’s judgemental. 

-He is probably the least judgmental out of the bridge crew, if not the least judgmental person that you would meet. 

-Knowing from experience that judgments can hurt, he is one that will never judge a book by it’s cover, and that really draws people in.  

-But once you get to know him...

-Once you get to know Hikaru, you see a whole new side to him.  He is quirky and funny and so god-damn smart that it is just mesmerizing.  He gives 110% into anything he does, and that includes relationships.  He is in or out, no in-between. 

-He continually surprises you on how out-going he really is, but only in small groups of people that he really trusts.  For you he will jump on the bed and sing his favourite song, making you laugh until your sides hurt, but would never do that in front of a crowd. 

-Hikaru’s happiness is...

-It’s a quiet type of happiness.  It’s small smiles and sparkling eyes.  It’s adoring gazes and soft kisses. 

-When he’s happy, really, truly, happy, he gets real quiet.  Which can be disheartening for some, but if you know him, you know that he’s just trying to take it all in and revel in the moment.  

-And then later, when you’re alone, that’s when he will pull you close and whisper in your ear all the things that happened that day that made him happy.

-Hikaru’s sadness is...

-It’s a very stoic kind of sadness.  There is no public sobbing or sniffling or whining.  It’s an upturned chin and an expressionless face.  It’s doing everything he needs to do, helping everyone he needs to help before allowing himself to break down. 

-Then, alone, his sadness is long hot showers, water mixing with tears and the sound drowning out his sobs.  

-With you, it’s still trying to keep that stoic facade, but you just waited outside the bathroom for half an hour and you could hear his sobs.  It’s him denying his sadness until you wrap your arms around him and pull him close, and then he knows he can finally let everything go. 

-Again, it’s quiet.  He doesn’t talk about what’s making him sad, but he lets you hold him and stroke his teary cheeks until he can finally breathe again. 

-Hikaru’s anger is...

-His anger is fury.  He is not one for petty arguments.  Ever.  If you see Hikaru mad, if you make Hikaru mad enough to lash out, you know there’s something seriously wrong. 

-Anger is something that breaks most people down, it’s all waving arms and raised voices.  Not Hikaru.  Never. 

-It’s a build up.  It’s quiet stewing of emotions until he’s put into a position where it is acceptable to release his anger.  It’s quipped words and lowered brows.  

-It’s reason beyond reason, rationale beyond rationale.  He will take you down.  It’s this tone that is full of malice but still remains calm and even.  It’s words that are harsh but delivered in such a way that makes you feel small.  It’s fear-inducing, his anger, and if you ever get to see his anger, you better run (re: Into Darkness when he is temporary captain). 

-Hikaru’s love is...

-It’s a slow growing thing.  He is not one for one night stands or fake relationships.  Like I said before, he’s either in or out.  No in-between. 

-But when he does love someone.  When he realizes that what he is feeling for someone, this trust, this happiness, this admiration, is actually love, it’s a beautiful thing. 

-It’s good morning texts and coy smiles cross the room.  It’s blushing when he hears you say his name, and it’s getting flustered when he hears yours.  It’s holding your hand on the first date, it’s kissing you softly good night on the second, always leaving you wanting more.  But it’s all about trust, and that what he’s slowly giving you through these tiny acts of affection, he’s giving you his trust. 

-It’s a quiet love a rare love, but it’s an all-encompassing love, that’s for sure. It’s not something he gives away for free, it takes time and work, but if you put in the effort, if you love him back just as hard, it is impossibly worth it. 

-If Hikaru Sulu loves you, you are his whole world, and that’s pretty special.

Ok rant over.  Geez I got into that.

Secondly, i had not received an ask about that groupchat before, had you worded your ask differently my response would have been different too.

I use the asks I answer to clarify and to explain.. yours was to mock. I felt it no use to publish as I don’t publish many other mocking, gloating, insulting, and hateful asks.
