I did my first ever Game Boy mod today! The soldering was only a little bit terrifying.
It's got a new case and larger backlit screen.
The goal was to make a Game Boy Color that looks like and original DMG Game Boy.
I'm pretty happy with the results, but have you noticed the mistake I made?
I screwed the internal screws too far and they pushed out the front of the case!!! All the far soldering work went fine and I screwed up screwing!

project time! I bought a frontlit GBA SP and decided to upgrade it with a Funnyplaying IPS v2 screen. The IPS kit is actually cheaper than getting an original backlit SP screen and it comes with the bonus of being slightly larger. Installing it was a breeze with only very minor shell trimming and soldering a single (optional) wire to allow it to use the brightness control button. (It has five levels of brightness compared to the original's two!)
I also included a comparison pic with my AGS-101 SP. The IPS screen has much better brightness and viewing angles and better saturation imo. I wouldn't say that you'd NEED to upgrade to IPS from an AGS-101 but it is a no-brainer if you've got the frontlit model and don't want to shell out more for a 101.

Just spent hours after work on this modified Game Boy. It was well worth the time and effort. It came out pretty dope. The screen is backlit with different brightness levels, 11% bigger than the original Game Boy Screen, 36 color palettes to choose from, and a cool retro pixel filter you can toggle on and off to replicate the Dot Matrix Display of the original Game Boy as well. Clear case was purchased from @handheldlegend.
