It's been over a decade since I played my GBA copy of LeafGreen, and so this playthrough of FireRed I'm doing on my Switch is actually my first experience with the female player character in that game, who I've learned is called Leaf. And she's cute! I like the way her hat is like a weird lid on top of her hair, and the strange oblong silhouette it gives her. She's very scrunkly to me.
This player character feels pretty underrepresented compared to Red or other female protagonists like May or Dawn, which I guess makes sense since a female playable Kanto trainer had to be invented for the Gen 3 remakes, but it's nice that she got into Smash as an alt palette for the Pokémon Trainer.

Seeing pokemon rerelease FRLG has been really nice. Those games are hundreds of dollars to get legally and it's going to make it so much easier for people to play them legally and officially
I've personally sailed the 7 seas to play these ones and don't fault others for doing the same. But it doesn't make me less glad for those unable to emulate, who just want official copies, or kids interested in the game.

#0001 Bulbasaur - the Seed Pokémon
"Bulbasaur is a Grass- and Poison type Pokémon. The bulb on its back grows with time, and is filled with seeds and nutrients. It loves the sun, and often takes naps in it. Bulbasaur are docile, but sturdy Pokémon, perfect for a beginning trainer!"
#0004 Charmander - The Lizard Pokémon
"Charmander is a Fire type Pokémon. The tip of their tail has a constantly burning fire, which gets brighter and hotter the stronger and healthier Charmander is. Charmanders are brave, and show great loyalty to strong trainers. If you choose Charmander and grow along with it, you'll have a partner for life!"
#0007 Squirtle - The Tiny Turtle Pokémon
"Squirtle is a Water type Pokémon. The shell on its back hardens with time, and helps it to swim swiftly through bodies of water. It also retreats into its shell when it seeks protection. It can spray water from its mouth with quite some force. Squirtle are very sociable, but also a little mischievous. An adventure with Squirtle is never boring!"

The Pokécenter and the PC
"While on your journey, you can catch Pokémon with Pocket Monster Capsule Balls, or Pokéballs for short. Beware - you can catch as many Pokémon as you like, but you can only carry up to six of them in your team at a time! During battles, your Pokémon's Health Points, or HP, may get depleted, or they might get a status condition like Burned, Poisoned, Paralyzed or Frozen. In these cases, it is best to seek out a Pokémon Center! Nurse joy will heal your Pokémon for free here. Inside these Pokécenters, you will also find a PC, where all the Pokémon aside from your team of six are stored. It is a neat box system, designed by someone I'm sure you'll meet during your travels! You can only switch the Pokémon you have with you in here, so be sure to make strategic desicions before hitting the road! The PC also holds your mail, and stored items."
Items and TMs/HMs
"During your adventure, you might pick up items alongside the road, or buy them at PokéMarts. Many of these items, like potions and a variety of berries, can be used to heal your Pokémon's HP or status conditions when you're not near a Pokécenter. There are also Key Items, which will help you along on your journey. Sometimes, you'll encounter discs with move registration numbers on them. These are called Technical Machines (TMs). They can teach moves to your Pokémon (if the Pokémon is compatiable with it), but only once, so choose wisely! There are also special TMs called Hidden Machines (HMs), Which can be used outside battles on the field when certain conditions are met. These HMs are infinite, but are hard to unlearn for your Pokémon, so be careful!"
Battling and Badges
"'Whenever two trainer's eyes meet, they must battle.' This rule has been passed down since the Pokémon League was established, even if you don't participate in Gym Matches yet. In battle, there is a difference between Attack Moves, which deplete HP, and Status Moves, which raises or lowers the stats of a Pokémon. The League has strict rules on what counts as a legal move and battle order, so make sure you read them before participating! For every won battle, your Pokémon will gain Experience Points, Exp for short. Once it gained enough Exp, your Pokémon will level up, learn new moves and maybe even evolve! When you think you've toughened up enough, you can try earning Badges by challenging Gyms. The Leaders of these Gyms are specified in a certain Type of Pokémon. When you obtain a Badge, Pokémon of higher levels will obey you, and sometimes, it allows you to use HM moves on the field. If you manage to win eight Badges, you are invited to challenge the Elite Four, and see if you are strong enough to become a Pokémon Champion!"
