My understanding of ethnography lecture.
Ethnography is a method of research within Anthropology.
Asking clear questions and understanding your target audience and guide the research well. The subjectivity of the research can be an added value. i.e, if you care for the topic, the research will be more interesting and seem more purposeful.
It is important to understand and realize the information required. You have to be clear what you want to know and being specific on a broad topic helps to gain focus on the path of the research.
Observing People in a public space is okay, but observing people in an organization like a clinic for example is unacceptable as this is deemed unethical. The organization that you want to hold this research should give you consent to do so.
Question: If sociology is the study of relationships between people in a society, then why is tribal culture not being considered into the study? it is a group of people having relationships among a society.
The answer to this after speaking with Anna: Usually sociology studies are centered around an urban environment. There have been studies done on tribal cultures and relationships in that environment, but it is usually about the modern day society.
My thoughts on the answer: I get it. It is actually a study that can influence modern day society. As tribal cultures are in the shadows away from the urban environment, studies on their relationships have a lower chance of impacting today’s society.
