Day 28: Something You Made in Your Comfort Zone or Used Your Strengths⁠ ⁠ My family jokes that my superpower is finding things at thrift stores, and my Kato (Kevin Smith's Green Hornet) costume was 100% assembled from modified thrift store finds. Then, for the photos, I set up my own camera equipment, threw a green gel over my off-camera flash, and staged some dramatic (and appropriately green) photos! The result is something that looks *way* better than the sum of its parts, which is about $25 worth of thrift store clothes, some safety pins, some spray paint, and a piece of EVA foam.⁠ ⁠ Fun fact: In this photo, I'm actually standing in front of the entrance to a pizza restaurant. Day 10: Cosplay on a Budget/Closet Cosplay⁠ ⁠ That's basically the story of my cosplay career 😂 to the point that I teach a 2-hour workshop on it! Check out #HPLFanFest.)⁠ ⁠ When we were first putting together our Found Object Cosplay panel, we needed some case studies, so we threw together some sample costumes in an evening. This Duo Maxwell (Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz) costume was assembled in five minutes with items scavenged mostly from my sister's closet. Oh, plus some scrap muslin for the cuffs. #fallforcostume Day 28: Recycled⁠ ⁠ I recycle a TON of things for my costumes (and even from costume to costume). I reuse fabric pieces, hardware, props, wigs, and random junk out of my garage.⁠ ⁠ Sometimes I also just go find things at garage sales or thrift stores and modify them. Me: Man, I'm really starting to panic about getting things done in time for Gen Con next week, and I'm utterly swamped and barely have time to eat or sleep, and I haven't even STARTED making my Crowley coat yet, and I'm wondering if I should have a backup jacket just in case mine doesn't get done in time, but I've been looking at thrift stores and it's impossible, because where in the world am I ever going to find a jacket with those HUGE upward-pointing lapels?
