#sheprochallenge day 14: what kind of characters do you gravitate towards? For me, it’s mostly strong, female characters who are not the „damsel in distress“-type (swipe for examples) but also characters like Ozymandias from Watchmen, I like those smart and cunning villains! #shepropchallenge day 4: how has cosplay helped you find your identity? This is gonna be personal and long: I‘ve always been a nerdy kid and before Marvel started the MCU and stuff like The Big Bang Theory airing on TV, being a nerd just wasn’t cool. I often felt out of place, I wasn’t a party girl and preferred staying at home with my comics and art. When I discovered cosplay, it kinda opened the doors to a bigger world- there were finally people like me and I was able to become my favorite characters while dressing up! Since then, I made so many friends, experienced great things and I feel like people take interest in my art! #shepropchallenge day 3: my most memorable cosplay experience! That one was a hard decision since I have so many beautiful cosplay memories! I chose the day I wore my Trooper armor for the first time: the SciFi Days in Speyer in 2017 ❤️ Becoming a part of the #501stlegion was a huge dream and it finally came true in the days after that event. ❤️✨What inspired you to cosplay for the first time?”✨❤️ • It was 2011, working retail right out of college and feeling super down about having NO creative outlet, much less a career after getting a BFA degree in art. I discovered cosplay at a time I think I needed it the most. My friends @taylorwiffed and @nicichan were my coworkers at Apple and they mentioned that I should go check out Phoenix Comicon (@phoenixfanfusion) that coming Memorial Day weekend. So I bought a one day ticket and pretty much had my mind blown. How I hadn’t been exposed to this culture earlier was weird considering the crowds I ran in, but there it was in all of its nerdy fandom glory and I literally felt like I was shining that weekend. I went to a dozen panels that day, including Story Time with @itswilwheaton (I miss those 😭) and I spent all day mesmerized by all the people in costume. It wasn’t that popular yet, even as recently as 10 years ago, so maybe only a 5th of the crowd was in cosplay. I remember being so excited and inspired. Dressing up in costume wasn’t that foreign to me, as my mom always made me costumes growing up and I was in theater. This time, however, I wanted to create something for myself that I could wear to express my fandoms, and fulfill the creative emptiness I was feeling. • So it began... • Thank you Taylor and Denise for changing my life in a way I never thanked you for. #shepropchallenge day 29 “out of the comfort zone.” I usually control heavily what I cosplay. I don’t join groups that I’m not deeply interested in and I always put my own twist on things. For CTcon 18 it was my last year of conning with my sister before she completely adulterous and turned no fun. She really really wanted to cosplay Sophie from Howls Moving Castle. Now I have 0 problems with Ghibli movies I love them as much as the next weeb. How ever the character designs are a bit to simplistic for me cosplay wise and a lot of people who cosplay Sophie wear the same dress. So I decided to steampunk things. I still haven’t decided if I succeeded. Kat had a blast and that’s what truely mattered but I felt a bit stuffed in my Howl cosplay.
