❤️✨What inspired you to cosplay for the first time?”✨❤️ • It was 2011, working retail right out of college and feeling super down about having NO creative outlet, much less a career after getting a BFA degree in art. I discovered cosplay at a time I think I needed it the most. My friends @taylorwiffed and @nicichan were my coworkers at Apple and they mentioned that I should go check out Phoenix Comicon (@phoenixfanfusion) that coming Memorial Day weekend. So I bought a one day ticket and pretty much had my mind blown. How I hadn’t been exposed to this culture earlier was weird considering the crowds I ran in, but there it was in all of its nerdy fandom glory and I literally felt like I was shining that weekend. I went to a dozen panels that day, including Story Time with @itswilwheaton (I miss those 😭) and I spent all day mesmerized by all the people in costume. It wasn’t that popular yet, even as recently as 10 years ago, so maybe only a 5th of the crowd was in cosplay. I remember being so excited and inspired. Dressing up in costume wasn’t that foreign to me, as my mom always made me costumes growing up and I was in theater. This time, however, I wanted to create something for myself that I could wear to express my fandoms, and fulfill the creative emptiness I was feeling. • So it began... • Thank you Taylor and Denise for changing my life in a way I never thanked you for. Also thank you my friend Paul for introducing me to the wonders of an anime con. You guys are responsible for my years of reckless crafting spending habits and zero closet space 😆💕 • • #shepropchallenge #cosplay #cosplayoriginstory #howitbegan #phoenixcomicon #cosplayer https://www.instagram.com/p/CL6DvMIDdw7/?igshid=scmxkw73v1ui
