Buried under some of the most extensive and dynamic sand dunes in Scotland are the sites of prehistoric settlements. Here the sand has claimed land once used by hunter gatherers.

Sure there isn't a lot to see now but this was once a bustling village with wooden longhouses and farm buildings occupied through from about 700CE at least to 1100CE. Now its lost to shifting sands and a changing coastline.

These may potentially be the most uninspiring photos I have ever posted but on this spit of coastal headland once stood a prehistoric settlement. The flat expanse in the first image is where prehistoric shelters and roundhouses once stood.
